I received a flyer from DC United today which states...

Reserve For Two and Renew Your View
For those who will follow us into our new stadium, reserve your seat now for the next two seasons you can lock in your current priority number to select your view at our new home.

There are four time mandated levels for ordering Full Season Packages Only.
The sooner you order and reserve the more benefits you receive. All you need is a $100 deposit per seat per season. The exchange policy will be much improved also. The team will select ten games where tickets are exchangeable.

For more info call your ticket rep at DC United. (202)587-5466/67

The deadlines are Oct.17th, Nov. 18th, Dec. 16th, Jan. 20th

Got this flyer on Friday. I'll send in my $800 this week. It's not like I have any doubt about renewing my seats, so I might as well lock in the 2005 price for the next two years.

I'm hoping that this contract will see out our time at RFK, and that the next chunk of money I send the team will be for seats at our new home.

Upon further reflection, this would be a perfect opportunity to send a message about the notable lack of South Indians on our team. Hmmm...

Saw a similiar ad in Nowak's coaches association weekly email a week or two back.

Is there an option to buy new season tickets and lock in a priority number?

Smart move either way by DC United. They're going to lock up a bunch of season ticket deposits for two seasons (a big coup for DC) while creating at least a little extra demand for a stadium that is at least two years away from having games in it and hasn't even broken ground yet.

It will be huge if and when the stadium is announced, that the very same day they can say "3,000 (or however many of these deposits have gone in) season tickets have already been sold for the new United Park."

As usual, a smart move by the DC FO.

Money does, indeed, talk, and quite loudly at that.

I've heard mutterings about priority numbers, etc. Don't know any details, but I am hoping that being a VIP season ticket holder since Day 1 (originally 2 tix, now 4) will get me my choice of seats in the new stadium.

Have any of you folks considered counseling? I think we got some addiction issues here! If I walked up to you an promised you a really nice dinner but I wasn't going to cook it for two years, just give me the money now please, well, it does seems like quite a racket.

Didn't they do that in Charlotte when they built the pointyball stadium years ago, asked for several thousand dollars "license" to have the privilege of buying a season ticket?

Addiction sounds about right.

I sent in a $75 deposit on MLS season tickets back in early 1995. Never got any credit for that from what I remember.

You're also locking the price for the next two seasons at 2005 prices.

Okay, maybe not such a bad thing.

Big difference.

Buying a Personal Seat License (PSL) gives you the right to buy your season ticket. Here we're buying the tickets.

Here's what you get for fronting the money.

Lock in your current priority number for the new stadium for 2 years
2-year price protection
Keep your seats for 2 seasons
10 additional vouchers f (2 vouchers to 5 specified games) per season
Freddy Adu autographed replica ball
DCU 10 Year Anniversary Commemorative t-shirt
MLS 10-year Anniversary Commemorative Book

Does anybody know how these priority numbers are determined? And exactly what is the priority for? I'm assuming it's for seats in the new stadium. Can you imagine walking into the new stadium to pick out your seats.

I like the idea of keeping the price the same for 2 years...it's not like I ain't gonna go.

I will be a "bad soccer fan" and say I threw mine away the minute it arrived. Reserve a number for a seat in a stadium that has no location, plan, or financing. Sure I'm all over that with my money. I have had 5 season tickets for 5 years now and will wait a bit on this. The price protection is the only thing that is tempting but MLS is not really in a position to jack prices up very much so I will take my chances.

Interesting. That's a totally valid reaction. (Like you needed my approval!)

My reaction was that since I know I'll be getting season tickets as long as I'm alive, I might as well take advantage of the price hold. Plus, maintaining my priority position, whatever that is, sounds like a good thing to do, even though I don't see a new stadium opening any sooner than 2008.

And here I was, hoping that DCU would give me my choice of seats in the new place just because I'm a nice guy!
