He will make his debut at a 10-team tournament in Qatar next month, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said.

Brazil has won five World Cups but its best Olympic performances were in 1984, 1988 and 1996 when it won silver.

Ricardo raised eyebrows this year when he led Juventude, an unfashionable provincial club from southern Brazil, to the quarterfinals of the Brazilian championship.

He formerly coached Vitoria and Guarani.

His appointment marks a change in policy by the CBF as the coach of the senior team usually takes charge of the under-23 Olympic side as well.

Vanderlei Luxemburgo lost his job as Brazil coach two years ago because of his team's poor performance at the Sydney Olympics, where it was beaten by nine-man Cameroon in the quarterfinal

Wasn't Ricardo Gomes a part of the 1994 WC troop?

No, it was 1990 as the article above says.

Ricardo Gomes was cut before WC 94 due to injury, so was Mozer. He had been a fixture in qualifiers alongside Ricardo Rocha. Rocha also was injured 2 games into the Cup.
