any idiot could have coached todays chelsea to the prem league title. and his/her assistant could coach chelseas second team to a top five finish for good measure. mourinho isnt doing anything worth talking about at chelsea. what he did with porto however, was impressive.
It was only two years back that an idiot named Claudio Ranieri couldn't win a trophy with Chelsea in his time there despite having Abramovich's millions to spend.

chelsea bustin out the 3-6-1.. now that'd be somethin...
In Ranieri's 1st game in charge, his chelsea team came up against the then Mighty Red Devils, Manchester United. They came back from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3. Then, they were playing in a 3-6-1 formation. :)

ummm, ranieri brought an underachieving Chelsea into the champion's league BEFORE abromovic. Claudio only had one year of Roman's money.

Mourinho won the EPL title in his 1st season. It's not like he came in to reap the benefits of Ranieri's squad. Heck, Crespo and Veron were booted off to Milan. :D

Chelsea had won nothing before Mourinho and now they're probably the most feared team in the world and they're making a mockery of the EPL because of him.

I'm sure that having an open checkbook from the owner has nothing to do with Chelski's success

Claudio got Chelsea to the CL before Abromovic came in with his money. In the year before Maurinho arrived Claudio got Chelsea to finish second in the Prem. I'm sure that Mourinho is a good coach, but its not like he took a team that was languishing in the middle of the table to suddenly become a power. He joined the team when it was in second place, got about 100m in addition to spend on the team and brought it into first place. And the're still spending money to strengthen the team. Again, I'm not saying he's a bad coach, but the circumstances he's in give him a very big advantage over other coaches.

Lot of coaches have a collection of stars, only few manage to make a collective out of it. Real Madrid should have dominated Spanish football for the past years based on their players' reputations, but they had no one to make a collective out of it. Mourinho formed Chelsea into a collective.

What he did with Porto is incredible. Such a small budget, and still winning all possible trophies in two years time. No one would repeat that the first decades. The CL final Porto-Monaco was Mourinho's win: the system was perfect. Every player knew what Mourinho expected of him, and the system was pure perfection. Never saw a game before where the influence of the coach/manager was so important.

I go for Mourinho as well. He's the best, and he is key in Chelsea's success. It's way too easy to say it's just Abramovich's money.

I'm not saying its just Abromovic's money either, but Chelsea was making steady improvement each of the previous years before he got there. Lots of people seem to talk about Mourinho as if the club was in the dumps before he arrived. They were already a very strong team that only came in second in the Prem because that year Arsenal were themselves having a record year (I forget, but I think that year they went undefeated?).

It's way too easy to say it's just Abramovich's money.youre so wrong about real madrid. everyone knew they would struggle once they sold makelele, the only midfielder who actually cared about defense. theyre buying all the wrong players. that theyve actually won anything is cause theyre so great going forward. instead of shelling out millions on the beast and robinho they should have gotten some defenders. put mourinho, capello, lippi, wenger etc in charge of real madrid and they would win something again because they would never accept the transfer policy of their front office.
