It never seizes to amaze me how many people go into a poll thread and start asking how the heck "so-and-so" isn't on the list but "so-and-so" made it without checking the date the thread was started.

It all makes sense now why he said Gary Neville was the second best striker in the world. This guy thinks he is actually funny by posting random names in different threads that are completely irrelevant.

The best goalkeeper would have to be Iker. There isnt really one goalkeeper that stands above the rest. Everyone has their off days. Just please dont say Van Der Sar is the best because without his defense hes got nothing. Sure, he makes some good saves every once in a while, but anyone could get shutouts when you have the likes of Vidic and Ferdinand in front of you.

Well you did mention Cech just in the last page (alongside Buffon and Casillas). ;)
Cech was never top 3 in the Premiership at any point during his career, much less worldwide. People just got carried-away with all the clean-sheets he put-up while playing behind an amazing defensive team with a defensive-minded manager.

The best keepers are always wanted by the elite sides which means they will all generally be playing behind better players than their peers.

No one outside of Mexico gives a shit about Ochoa. There are more than 10 Keepers in Europe that are better than him not just because of ability, but because of the fact that they play in Europe and not the very mediocre Mexican league(mediocre by world class standards anyway)
.mediocre....most of the players from PARAGUAY NT come from mexico, especially cabanas, and they lead the conmebol
How many times has erick mentioned Ochoa throughout this thread?
.not enough

You gettin cold and shit from just standing there and the defense is taking care of all threats, and then suddenly you're called into action. Nothing is more difficult then that for a goalkeeper.

I have to make a new reply since you can edit ones own post in this thread.
What a lot people do not realize is that the goalkeeper position is like any other position in which the best player of the world for that position differentiates from period to period based on the player that is performing best at it. A bit like how Ronaldinho was the absolute best several years back and then it Ronaldo and now Messi.
So some are unable to grasp the reality that other players might be playing better then Buffon and even dethrown him as the best in the world. Iker has these last few seasons been performing like no other keep and deserves all the recognition he is receiving.
Aknowledging that Iker is currently a little tiny bit better does not mean that one is deanouncing the legend that is Buffon.

Which is why we need to differentiate between best keeper and form keeper. As an aside Casillas looked far from great during the first half of the season.

Yeah, there's always a tendency to look at a longer time-period when comparing goalkeepers than for outfield positions. I think it's because its a more subjective debate. But you're right. We shouldn't be talking about what Buffon did 5 or 10 years ago. It's irrelevant to this poll.
