Definately julio cesar. He has been the underated goalie of recent history. And his reflexes are second to none!

He isn't the best in the world though.

He isn't even the second best in Serie A.

Correct.

See above and cut the Brazilian bias out.

It's arguable who's better between Frey and Julio Cesar, both are having a great moment in their careers. Call it brazilian bias or whatever you may, but I think Cesar has been more important to his team. There hasn't been many Inter games I've seen this past year and a half that I didn't end up thinking: "these f*ckers would have 2 points less if it wasn't for Cesar today". I also watch Fiorentina and Juventus games, and I do think Buffon is a better keeper than both, but it's JC who manages to get into my Serie A team of the week almost every time.

Haha, look who's talking about bias.
It's you that cant admit that Casillas is the best in the world.

It would have to be Iker Casillas after these last two seasons and the EURO 2008. He edged Buffon in two straight duels in Spain vs Italy with one of them even settled by the keepers themself.

I think the two are on the same leve with Casillas edging in front a bit.

1. Casillas
2. Buffon

3. Cech
4. Reina
4 [Anyone in good form]

Frey, Cesar and Neuer to name a few are all clearly better than Reina and Cech. Buffon is more complete than Casillas btw.
Top 5

1. Buffon

2. Casillas

3.Frey

4.Cesar

5. Manuel Neuer

Casillas is the best for me, then Buffon.

I have a feeling that if Cech stays healthy this season, he will regain his form of 2 years ago and he will close the gap on those 2 very quickly.

Frey is definitely up there as well.

Cech loss of form came after his injury. He's making mistakes he'd never do before. Maybe it's a psychologial thing?

That, plus as soon as GKs lose confidencem it takes a while to regain it back. Also with all the injuries to our back 4, it's tough for the GK to trust new players all the time.

I wouldn't say he has become absolutely mistake prone because its not really from lack of concentration but more of not doing enough to save goals. Instead of him grabbing balls, he'll let them run loose. He' has still been progressing positivley though since the injury and apparantely he won't be wearing the headgear anymore in a few more months which would ease his confidence a bit, either way so far this season after EURO he has been absolutely class for us hence why we've only conceded 3 goals from 10 games in all competitions this season.

But still, seems like it has alot to do with his head injury. He's had crap defenses in front of him before and still been stellar. Seems like a mental/confidence thing. Once you mess up it's hard to get back, especially on a team like Chelsea where he isn't involved that much and it's difficult to get back into the flow.

Why should I lie? I take it you are now going to be consistent and whine about the other follower of Serie A who agreed with my ranking? The two of us are not alone in our assessment of the keepers in Serie A. Just to clarify it is Buffon, followed by Frey and then Cesar.

Well then, how are you doing your assessment? Are you going by goals conceded, total saves, or just the way you view the keepers from your point of view? I'll tell you this, last season Buffon had 94 saves in 35 games in Serie A, Julio Cesar had 104 saves in 35 games, and Frey had 112 saves in 36 games. I guess in the end it's just an opinion.

Frey had more saves because he most likely had more shots on him as well since Fiorentina's defense > Inter's defense > Juventus' defense. That is why you see a decrease in saves from Frey to JC to Buffon.

In that case, wouldn't it be more like...Juve's defense > Inter's defense > Fiorentina's defense?

Buffon had to make fewer saves compared to the other keepers because, theoretically, Juventus' defense was better (they didn't allow as many shots that needed to be saved).

This is all theoretical and based on the season saves stats.

This makes more sense if the stats in Hectors post are used.
