I know people have posted this before, but what the hell, I thought I'd post again.

If you collect DVDs, check out http://www.dvdprofiler.com

You can use the software to enter all your DVDs, and upload the collection to their site. Mine is at http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=lastort

why do you guys collect dvd's?

[just a question; it seems that a lot of people buy dvd's of like every movie, but that just seems like a waste of money to me unless you actually really LOVE each of those movies. i ask the same question whenever i go to ciruit city or best buy and see people with a cart full of like 5 or 6 dvd's]

You need to make yours public if you want to share it.

This is a fair and good question.

Originally, I justified it to myself with the idea that I was planning to live overseas again, and I wanted to have stuff to watch. That's probably becoming less of a necessity with increased satelite services out of London.

So I've slowed down somewhat in my purchasing, but I've still got too many (60+). But hey, I own WAY more books than that, and I'll probably never read most of them again...many I've never read yet! There's just something nice about having the physical book in the room, ya know, and I think for some movie lovers, DVDs are like that too.

By the way, Mike, DVD Profiler seems much less interactive than imdb, no? I like how on imdb, I can so quickly click through actors/directors to break down their careers, various jobs, etc. Profiler looks more like just a text list of names.

Because we can. Really, that's it.

Between my wife and I, we've gotten six DVD's (not counting the extended edition LOTR I got for Xmas earlier this month) so far for the holiday season. And we've still got to go visit my inlaws this afternoon.

I don't buy recent films, but I do like to have the classics, and these are the only films I have any real interest in buying.

The bulk of my dvd collection-perhaps 75%-is music related, which I think is the real pleasure of dvds-sound. It's great to crank up the stereo and watch concerts and such. Plus, it makes them a great source to burn/copy the music on to a regular cd.

I just got a copy of "Tokyo Olympiad" as a gift-really nice. Sports are another genre that I like on the dvd as well, but the industry seems to be dragging it's feet on getting the quality product out. I'm hoping that they put the Bud Greenspan "Olympiad" series on dvd soon.
