I guess that's the correct title.
Setanta has reached new low on the Hamburg X Bayern Munich game.
I am watching it on a tape. It's already 20 minutes, and it's still has no commentary. Just the stadium noise.
I guess Setanta is the firm believer of "raw feed"...
The problem is, Setanta does not have a studio host to do commentary on the fly as a back up, nor does it have a statement scrolling "there is an audio problem ..."
Do people prefer a Hopkins yapping or no commentary at all?

The "natural sound" and the "voiceover" are transmitted on separate audio tracks on the international feeds.
The sound technician at master control is responsible for mixing the two audio tracks before sending the video out to the viewers.
The sound tech at Setanta master control in Ireland was the one who screwed up.

I always thought it would be awesome if they would do this here :D.

Well, I'd prefer no commentary. As long as the stadium noise comes through, no commentary is better unless the commentator is really top-notch.
I wouldn't call this a "new low" either. This isn't as bad as Setanta showing the PPV L'pool v. Man United game a couple weeks ago on tape-delay at 11:00a EDT and still charging people the same rates ($20 for home-viewing, $10 at a pub) as for a live match.

They showed the Liverpool-Man.United match on the Setanta USA channel later that night. That is one thing good about Setanta Man United Sunday night and Chelsea Monday night and I don't have to buy ppv.

setanta usa sucks ass, every single CCC match they've showed lately has started 15 mins late, and i dont mean they just show the match late, but they miss the first 15 mins of it. cancelling my subscription soon.

He's not talking about the game telecast coming late. He's talking about the game telecast starts late, JIP, i.e. when the telecast starts it's already in the 15th minute.
That's actually what happened in the 0630 PT Bundesliga telecast for a couple times. I start the recording at 0630. Yet when I start watching the tape at the beginning, it's the last 15 minutes of a CCC game. Apparently, the CCC game and the Bundesliga game overlap for 15 minutes in game time. So when the CCC game end, they simply cut into the Bundesliga game, JIP.
A week from last Saturday, in the Bayern Munich X Hannover telecast, when they JIP, Bayern already scored a goal (Demichelis scored in the 9th minute). As it turned out, it was the only goal of the game. And you know Setanta, they have no highlight replay during HT or after the game. So that's it. They showed the game live but no one saw the goal.
Setanta should be given credit for bringing the niche contents to America, but their production is really bush...
You may despise the folks at FSC, but at least they don't do this kind of crap...

You may despise the folks at FSC, but at least they don't do this kind of crap...No, their crap is entierly different. Like when they replay a match that goes to extra time then PK's. THEY COMPLETELY CUT OUT EXTRA TIME, regardless if there are goals, penalties, sending offs, etc. etc.
Thx,
Jay!

Which is why you always record the original showing and add an hour to the recording to cover extra time and penalties.
Since I don't get it, what does Setanta show at halftime if not highlights?

Random stuff. Profiles of football players, etc.
Seriously though, I don't know what Setanta does with their money. They must make tonnes but you wouldn't know it from the quality of their productions.

Actually this is the correct way to do it (cutting out the extra - time). How else are they supposed to show the entire match in a two-hour timeslot?

same thing happened last week with the all-ireland hurling final she showed a few nights after the game, I set up Tivo and of course it started late so I missed the last 5 minutes of the game. Crapola.

It really is frustrating to pay $12/month for one specific channel like this (HBO, however is well worth the price and thensome).
Is there a good email address to complain about the lack of a game clock/scoreline on CL games to? Is this a problem in the other leagues? I've never seen a Bundesliga game on the channel to know.
I'll be cancelling after the CL is over/Arsenal "crash" out...whichever comes first. :)

If Setanta uses a broadcast produced by a European broadcaster, then you'll see all the graphics needed, e.g. Bundesliga (the production for worldwide distribution), England national team (BBC), one of the two SPL games (Sky), etc.
If not, then Setanta simply uses the raw feed, no graphics, no clock, no nothing...
Every week, one SPL game has all the graphics on it and one has nothing. Of course it's too much to ask Setanta to install its own graphics and game clock ...

Jeez, with all the live and taped games that you can't get anywhere, $12 a month IS A STEAL. Considering if you watch Friday Coca-Cola, Saturday and Sunday Bundesliga every weekend, it's less than a dollar a game.
Thx,
Jay!

Really? I like it without the clock and scoreline. Certainly better than having it virtually in the middle of the screen like ESPN does. It covers up alot of the action.

I would prefer a no commentary to a studio hopkins yapping. Have had thesame experience with setanta twice now - my wife thinks they really define the meaning of a "Live Game". Really, Setanta needs to work on this issue - its an expensive channel and i am glad they are around but they need to up the service up a notch.

I pay the $12/month primarily for the CL games...and it's a perfectly fair price. It's just that the skimpy production values definitely bug me as I'm sure these Setanta guys are raking in some decent loot.
The last two weeks when I've tuned into the Friday CCC game, it's always joined in progress ten minutes late after the conclusion of live rugby before. That's annoying, too.
I just don't want to be lumped into the class of folks who expect the Eredivise to be picked up by NBC! I have no problem forking over the cash for a good product. At least the picture quality on the channel is light year's ahead of some of their PPV offerings.
