View Full Version : Proud Of My Team [R]

Our lads went into a hostile environment with NO chance of winning (including some posters on this board) and IMHO outplayed those Chilean ****s.
Anybody that is down after this result is flat out WRONG IMHO.
Our team played their hearts out and deserve to be applauded not critisized. Lets welcome them home and help them towards a 5th Star.

I'm not down because I had zero expectations.
However, this thread needs an [R].
Edit: Nevermind. Through a miracle of modern technology, it got one.

I could. Keeping out UdC's third would've seen to that.

Like I said in the post match thread, MLS Cup or Bust. DC United has a week off now, and when we come back MLS better be ready because DC United firing on all cylinders is unstoppable. 5 stars in '05.

I've been called many things, but never before have I been called a miracle of modern technology. :D
I'd be much prouder of my team had they not choked away a commanding lead by giving up THREE unanswered goals.
I'm pretty sure CHICO13 and greatscott would be prouder of them too had they maintained their lead. So I don't find the "couldn't be prouder" statement credible.
Can we cut the "I'm so proud of the kids," "AYSO," "everyone's a winner," "they tried really hard" bullsh't? This is a game we DEMONSTRATED that we could have won. We got a good enough lead that we SHOULD have won it. But we didn't. Instead we just pissed it all away.
Am I proud of them? That's not the point.
But I hope Peter Nowak didn't take the boys out for ice cream after the game.

Chico,
Yes, we should be proud of the guys in the sense they played their asses off. On the other hand, "No hay peor ciego que el que no quiere ver". We are a couple years behind in skills, speed, strength and experience. We are still naïve, why can’t we freaking kick the ball when we are in front of the goal. How can we end up losing a game when we’re winning 2 - 0????

nothing wrong with being upset over a match we should have won. hell, should have had a 2-1 aggregate lead coming IN to this btch, but thats besides the point.
MLS cup is ours to lose!

Yeah my heart isn't soaring after that game, but that's why I choose to focus my thoughts on our coming 5th star. We should have won this game, but this loss didn't exhibit the lack of professionalism and pride that the loss in Mexico City did. Nobody should be happy after this, but I don't feel like the loss merits the (deserved) recriminations that occurred after the Pumas game. To each his own, we'll all be rockin' RFK in two weeks (and hopefully the Meadowlands next week).

I am down because we lost. I think we played well, but as some point you have just have to demand more. Did we show that we had heart and skill? yes. Should we have won? yes. Which is exactly why I am down. If we play well against the Metros, and still lose you can be damn sure all of us will be upset. This should be no different. We are that good, and us fans should realize it.

We must get the 5th star now, if for no other reason than we need it if we want to get another crack at these guys next year.

the fact is IMHO and many other peoples, there is no way we are close to being as good of a team as them. we went into their home which was going INSANE and put on a pretty good fight.
when catolica came up here, DCU didnt have half the support catolica had at home. DC put up an incredible fight.
seeing the images of our boys walking onto that field with the catolica fans being as intimidating as ever made me extremely proud

Gomez going out spent hurt. I honestly think some of the bullsh!t calls against us started to make us play tentivaley. I was more pissed off at the first goal we gave up more than anything but still NO ONE gave us a chance and I think we outplayed them. They're lucky to move on...

Dude, this wasn't David vs Goliath- Catolica may be slightly better than us (they did win afterall) but they're not in a different class. We could and should have won, and yes I think DC United represented MLS well, but this wasn't Sao Paulo- it was Universidad Catolica and DC United is certainly able to compete with them. We lost in a terrible way, and while the team did me proud, let's not act like they never had a chance. They should have won.

Then why didn't we smoke them at home?

Then why didn't we smoke them at home?
Because they are slightly better than us (I said that above) and we didn't play very well in the first leg. Look, I'm just saying that Catolica is not so much better than DC United that losing was some sort of victory. The team did me proud, and going into the second leg I didn't expect them to do as well as they did, but a loss is a loss over the two legs. We should have done better at home.

the fact that we could have won should make us proud. they are a very good team and MLS is still a young league with the budget of a K-Mart shopper.
the fact that we should have won should make us hungry for more. we should get ready now for next year's tourney. we've put the hemisphere on notice that we are a young team, but we're a class organization.
the fact that we didn't win should make us pissed and ready to kick the living shite out of our MLS competition. its on to the next level. I'm more than happy to lay out the $$$ for my five star jersey.
happy with the play, generally yes. satisfied with the result, absolutely not. still proud of the effort, you bet.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly, but I'm out of rep.
