According to the BBC a Canadian player is on trial with Dundee of the Scottish first division:-

not sure if that's a step up in playing standards from USL-D1 but Dundee have a good shot at promotion to the SPL (actually may go under financially if they don't). Presumably he has an EU passport and wouldn't need a work permit.

Dundee reject Turkish striker
Dundee are not pursuing their interest in Turkish striker Mustafa Kalkan.
The 22-year-old, formerly with Belgian club Ghenk, arrived for a trial along with Canada Under-23 centre-half Justin Thompson and midfielder Guy Melamed.

"Mustafa is no better than what we have already and we have sent him back without taking the matter further,2 said Dundee boss Alan Kernaghan.

"I am still looking at the other two lads who are here and will take another day or two before making a decision."

Thompson was last at the Vancouver Whitecaps, while Melamed, 26, was born in Israel but holds a British passport.

Wasn't Thompson with Virginia Beach earlier this year?

Yes.

Good thing too. We wouldn't want to upset Ed from Calgary and his constant whining that the Whitecaps never do anything to develop Canadian soccer players. This way if he ends up with Dundee he can claim it was Virginia Beach that developed him.

Bad weekend K'head? I don't have the time or inclination for 'constant whining' re the Whitecaps. But when I hear that Lenny is on Soccercentral going on about the Whitecaps and development of Cdn players, my bullsh|t meter goes off.
Sorry, as you yourself have stated a few times, the business of the Whitecaps is NOT to develop Cdn players but to put a winning USL team on the field and be successful off the field. Saputo has helped the national team and been successful as well. The Caps can only claim the latter although that may change in the next couple of years now that they finally have a youth system in place.

Off topic, somewhat ironic that Quebec's soccer team is ousted by Levesque, non?
