Finally Forest puts together a decent game. 2-0 over Rotherham. Lester with a penalty and commons with a late goal. spoke to plymouth red who was at the City Ground and he said much improved over the past few matches but still not at the level Forest ought to be.

level Forest ought to be
Forest is now the lowest any......................ANY former European Cup Winner has ever been. EVER.
About 2-3 weekends ago I had a terrifying thought whilst looking at the standings. County goes up and we get relegated...............I get shivers just writing it. They were in 1st and we were off to our usual half-a**ed start to a season.
It's actually a sad indictment on us the fans as well that we've let things slip as far as they have. Not that any of us have 1/4 of a billion quid to get them up to the level of Man U but this is embarrasing.

yeah, trying to find the upside in home draw to blackpool is depressing

How so? Revenue generation is the tip of the iceberg as to the decline in Forest's fortunes. The last decade has seen a laundry list of problems both on and off the pitch, and no-one can put a finger on the exact start (Bohinen leaving, Cloughie's problems and inability to adapt, getting relegated just as the Premiership exploded, the list's not endless but bloody long), but the fans have very little to do with any of this.
I think it's about time people got used to the reality that 79/80 was a long time ago and football (especially the financial side) has changed a great deal. The level we should be hoping to emulate is the Charltons and Boltons at best. Top of the Championship is more realistic. Look at the vast majority of clubs outside the truly 'big' ones, they're usually just trying to stave off relegation.
If any blame can be levelled at the fans (and in the grand scheme of things it's very little), it's the unrealistic expectations and the inability to let players and managers settle.
We are a provincial club that punched massively above it's weight and unlikely to challenge the 'big' clubs for quite some time (if ever).
It's about time fans (not aiming this at you) realised this.
All that said, we should be doing a lot better in the division and I'm hoping that the bad start was just teething troubles and we'll at least make the play-offs.

Well unfortunately Forest fans deserve better. We should be turning over cars in the streets of Beeston about this rag tag outfit and the general decline of our team.
However, we've sat back fat on the idea that greatness was once here and it will shine on us again. With this band of half-wits, mental cases' and rubes who decide to sell anyone of value we won't get better.
Nottingham Forest is a for profit business and we are the customers. Its like anything. If you demand better they will either close or be forced to provide better. Unfortunately I think you may be right that with this outfit I think we're a lot closer to shuttering the doors than getting back to Europe or (the new) Wembley.
It was only 10 years ago we were Britains last team alive in Europe. Remember the Munich policeman in the river fiasco in the 94 UEFA cup quarters.

It's all well and good feeling this way, but it's not going to change anything. The only reason decent players are sold is because it's one of the few ways to generate revenue. If we hadn't sold Jenas chances are that there wouldn't be a Nottingham Forest to get upset about.
I think that's the main reason it seems so hopeless. There's no main culprit to blame it all on. It's a steady decline with many factors.
The only thing 'fan power' has done lately is get Kinnear to leave. And then we got relegated.
Someone who knows about football would be a godsend on the board. I don't think Doughty is an asset-stripper as far as the club is concerned, just a fan with too much business and not enough football sense.
Calling Forest a 'for profit business' is a bit much. There are only a handfull of football clubs in the world that can show any kind of profit.
One of the things Doughty has done right is managing our debt in the last year. Mind you, he was one of the reasons it got that bad in the first place.
Our league position is terrible and should be a lot better, but at least we have a club to support. Even if it is a basket case.

Mr Commons decided to stay and help his boyhood side back up the leagues but it appears he may be off to Everton in January...

Depends how much they offer. If we pull what we did with Spurs, I'll be sad to see him go but very happy with the money.

i'd miss seeing commons play but finishing up the debt clearing is most important in the long run for the club.

Never 'Notts'. That's the other Magpies across the Trent from Nottm. Forest.
Welcome. But why you'd want anything to do with this horror-show is beyond me. Then, you are a Toon fan.
I can't see Megson lasting much longer. Whatever he's doing, it isn't working. I'm loathe to get on the manager-go-round again but what else can they do?

considering he's having fans in to lambast the side. that is just bizzare. i've never heard of a manager letting fans come into the changing room and bitch out the players. clearly megson has lost it.

Don't worry about this kind of thing. People sometimes are so more interested in pointing out your one social faux pas than realizing that Forest should be called Notts and not County as we are
Notts in a profitable sitaution
Notts going anywhere.

Well, quite. Although we're not doing too badly on the money front compared to most other clubs at our/championship level.

Other than the two Sheffield clubs we SHOULD be doing best of anyone under the premiership. I mean we're the former European champions. C'mon. We've fallen down bad and this is insane.

The club is rotten. There's something fundamentally wrong with it. And throwing money at it isn't the only way to fix it. We tried that with Platt.
I meant financially we're doing pretty well, better even than some Prem clubs.
There's something else going on though, because with this squad we should be walking this division and we're playing like absolute shite.
Megson says the right things most of the time but I'm a bit sick of it being lumped solely on the players. I find it hard to believe they're deciding to play so defensively and just hoof the ball aimlessly of their own volition.
Oh and 'former European Champions' means FA these days. Football changed irrevocably with the beginning of the Prem and we've been unable/unwilling to reap the rewards from those changes. The Glory Years are over. We are a provincial club that did spectacularly well. But we couldn't hold on.
We shouldn't be where we are, that much is true but this attitude that it's our god given right to be in with the big boys (we are not a 'big' club) is one of the reasons for the decline.

a sad but true commentary. Sad but true. If we keep going in this continuing downward spiral we won't even be the top team in the county. This is like being forced to live in Wichita the rest of your life. Just no hope.
