Arf ...

As if. On current form, it's Chelsea, but under normal circumstances we all know it's "boring, defensive" Liverpool. Best in Europe, never mind the Premiership.

Blackburn's (from the point of view of the opposition).

Liverpool Best In Europe?

Of course we all know the swiss powerhouse Basel has the best attack since Peles brazil...

I think Chelsea are clearly defending the best in the premiership now. Rock solid across the back, if you ask me. Middlesbrough are looking pretty good as well. They have a strong pair of experienced defenders in the middle.
Liverpool's defense is excellent on paper, but isn't performing right at the moment. Sunderland (!) put two by them today. And Leeds??? C'mon now. They're leaking goals left and right. I bet they've allowed as many goals as anyone in the Premiership.

Everton kept five clean sheets in a row until the defeat to Newcastle (when Yobo got sent off).

When Yobo plays Everton have an excellent defence, but at the moment Chelsea's defence is the best.

I hate to agree with a Pig but when it comes to tenacity and physical defense Chelsea are tops. Plus Cudicini could not be better.

I'm just glad our defense isn't crap this year...

Overall, in the EPL this year, just looking at goals against, you have:

Chelsea 15
Middlesbrough 16
Man. United 17

Based upon form over the last couple weeks, Man. United is pretty hot with 2 straight league shut outs plus 2 straight shutouts in the Champions League. In fact, except for the 5-3 scorefest against Newcastle, Man. United has been right on par with the Chelsea defense for the season.

Chelsea was hot a month ago as they went on a 6 game clean sheet streak from 6-Oct to 16-Nov. That's pretty awesome.

In my opinion, overall, I'd say Chelsea has the best defense but Man United's is on the best CURRENT form.

Today's match should be VERY interesting. Of course, if the rumored return of Lauren Blanc into ManU's defense are true, that form will drop them out of the list of best defenses. I don't think it's a coincidence that their good showings have been since his injury.

Listening to the Worthington Cup game, it seemed to me that both defenses played fairly well. I know there were a couple of times that both goalkeepers were tested and had to make some saves.

It also seems to me that both sides had an equal amount of chances to score.

Therefore, with the final score of "Man Utd 1 - Chelsea 0" not being considered, I would say both teams are equal on both offense and defense. The game could have easily ended in a draw.

Well, for this game maybe. But United didn't even have Ruud or Ole on the bench...
