Global's FOX Sports World Canada service, if it hasn't been regarded as a total joke already, falls another notch lower.
FSW Canada has discontinued the English Premier League Highlights Show.
Smells like another budget cut (I know all about the 35% Canadian content rule.)
Let's see where the show will end up airing in Canada.

Oliver, please check the source of your rumor.
FSW Canada didn't drop the EPL highlight show, at least not this week. You obviously don't have a BEV nor *C system, so you have no clue.
On FSW Canada's schedule, they claimed they would show the highlight show at 18:00 PT on Sunday. They simply change the time without notifying the viewers to minimize ratings. They changed it to 17:00 PT (the same time FSC shows the highlights), which they were supposed to show a replay of the Chelsea X Sunderland game.
I set my VCR to tape the highlight show at 18:00 yesterday, yet at around 17:25, when I tuned to FSWC, it was already showing the highlights.

Look at the FSW Canada schedules for the next two weeks and see if you can find the EPL Highlights Show listed.
I can't.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge their dropping of the highlight show. Afterall, they televised the highlight show yesterday at a time unannounced.
Of course, an unannounced show would be useless to your website...

Unlike you, 99+% of viewers would like to know what show airs in which time slot.
You, being the sky surfer that you are with a big dish and a FTA Ku-band receiver, are an exception, not the rule.

Let me suggest. Besides looking at FSWC's printed schedule, check out zap2it's FSWC schedule. It listed a EPL Review show at 16:00 PT today. There is no such thing listed on FSWC's printed schedule. It has "The World Game" listed on that timeslot.
I set my VCR to record the hour on that timeslot. Guess what I saw when I got home...
In other words, you are putting all your eggs in one basket...

I'm no TV expert, but it seems reasonable to me to think that FSWC would put the correct schedule on its website.
I mean, if they can tell whomever Zap2It uses for TV listings, surely they can tell their own people?

That's the problem.
Global does NOT maintain its own website for FSW Canada, preferring to piggyback on the FOX Soccer Channel website instead.

If they had to cut something, this show should just about be the last thing they should cut. EPL ratings are huge in Canada.
Doesn't make sense.

Which is why it appears they haven't actually done so....have you actually read this thread?

For next week, the EPL highlight show, according to Zap2it, will be on FSWC at
Monday, 16:00 PT
Tuesday, 02:00 PT
I sure will set my VCR to record it. I'll believe the show is gone when I (don't) see it...

Phwew. I can sleep easily at night knowing that FSW Canada still has the EPL highlight show.

No need for sarcasm. IT's probably the best hour that this pathetic channel fills each week.

Sorry, I just couldn't help with everyone's hackles getting raised on this (untrue) story.
So, taking your word for it, why is it that FSC is better than FSWC?

Higher budget, but also they probably don't have extremely high costs for anything other than satellite transmission since they don't produce a lot of original programming themselves. NewsCorp spends that sort of money on Copa Libertadores/Sudamericana and obviously the American sports (NFL/MLB/NASCAR/PAC-10 college stuff, plus moderate expenses on Formula One)

When FSWC started 3 years ago, it had 2 LIVE EPL games on most Sundays plus LIVE EPL on weekdays, as well as 2 first-choice Bundesliga matches, plus Sky Sports News. FSWC also had 2 live MLS games on most weeks.
FSWC is now a shadow of its former self, with no live EPL on weekends (one tape-delay game on Sunday only), one crap Bundesliga B game on Saturday, and one MLS game each week.
You can blame the 35% Canadian content rule for the changes (the channel started with a 15% Canadian content requirement that ramped up to 35%.)
Because ratings for FSWC is tiny (around 3000 households during prime time on average), Canwest Global decided not to invest in additional Canadian programming (other than Serie A re-runs produced by TLN) and cut FSC programming down to its sorry state.

I don't think you can blame the Canadian content rule, as the EPL Highlights Show always counts as Canadian Content, since they always show Fulham highlights.

I guess you're joking.
But the Canadian content rule is the biggest joke around. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't FSW Report count as Canadian under the Canadian content rule (cuz the guys producing the show are Canadian)?? Funny since the show itself has virtually zero Canadian content. In other words, any Fulham or Tottenham match should really be considered to be Canadian content following the same absurd logic.
And no wonder they show the FSW Report about 8 times daily.

FSW Report counts as Canadian content because the show is produced in Canada and is staffed entirely by Canadians.
The Serie A re-runs, which were originally produced by TLN (TeleLatino), also count as Canadian content.
If FSC were to hire a Canadian producer or Canadian talent to work on a particular show in LA, then that show would also count as "Canadian content" when it airs on FSW Canada.
(That is the reason why CNN hired plane loads of Canadians to work around the world during the '90s, before AOL whacked most of them in a massive cost-cutting move.)
