Since this thread is about who starts I'll say it here. Not starting Ruiz and Johnson didn't really hurt/punish/discipline the players it just hurt the team who's desparately trying to get back on form. I know as a coach you have to do these things to maintain control of the team but not starting those two meant that FCD had to defend the entire first half with very little chance to score or even stretch the DC defense. I say embarrass them, run them, fine them or whatever but they have to be on the field because this is a business that's all about winnning not improving character traits. You can argue if the team played well last night but you must agree that they played with heart and passion, ingredients that were missing against SJ. If they play the rest of the season with last nights effort, put their best 11 on the field and have a bit of the luck even out they will do very well and make the kind of noise everyone wants in the playoffs. Last night proved again that in soccer the best team doesn't always win....the only thing that can be controlled is the effort and that part was there.

By not starting Ruiz and EJ, Colin Clarke really gave the game to DC. It was inevitable that DC was going to score first.

I said as soon as I saw the lineup that I would give him a big thumbs up if he pulled it off but call for his head if they lost. Why, because he should know his team and if he pulls a stunt like that it had better work. CC should resign because his team has quit on him.

I watched the game with a friend and my wife (who I have both converted into FCD fans) and that is to the word exactly what they BOTH said.

At least they looked like they actually wanted to be out there last night.

my friends and i discussed this, and came to the conclusion that this could be a big mistake in the sense that, ruiz and johnson both have huge egos...watchin the team struggle without them out there could possibly lead them to have the thought that this team "needs" them and thus the selfish attitudes might progress...but i still believe an example had to be made that no ones spot is safe and elitist attitudes will be punished just like any other player of less skills.
i am glad to see simo is not on the list of players who should absolutely start, i get the sense that he has run out of gas, and is just not effective in his role anymore.
