some people complained early in the season that he's slow etc etc etc... he's the top scorer on psg and is tied with carew of lyon as the top scorer in ligue 1... i like him and with kalou, dhorasso and rothen playing with him, it will only help him... allez l'aigle des acores!

Keeps missing some good chances though...
I think we put him under a lot of stress as the only real front-man in the team.
Hence, his missed opportunities become more magnified.

Well....thats all we talk about in the Portugal forum and they talk about this in the la republica Portuguesa as well. That pauleta is slow and misses alot of oppertunities....
On the Portugal forums alot of us are always asking for a replacement from either Almeida, Vaz Te or Postiga....
Thats whyy i was curious to find out what you guys think of him..

I think Almeida, Vaz Te are a bit raw and Postiga from what I've seen of him is not really International class.
I think Portugal are crying out for a truely world class striker to come to prominence.
Honestly if they had that, I wouldn't bet against them as favourites for the WC.

We all kind of agree that Vaz Te and Almeida are raw.....but we have seen Pauleta miss alot of chances....the final straw for alot of people was when he scored ZERO goals during euro(i always had faith even during the last game i thoutgh he was going to get one)....
But we are seeing him do the same thing, and we see he is losing speed, he is also an older player at 32.
We think if given the chance, Vaz Te would at least score on his speed...something Pauleta isnt really able to do anymore. ALso, VAz Te has some niffty like fintas to him!
With Almeida we think hes a monster....6'7 in the box would be a nightmare for any defender and we think he would improve your goal scoring form from center pieces and header oppertunities.
All we really want though is for Scolari to give if not each of them a chance, ONE of them a chance.

I like him. I don't, however, like the fact that he appears to be the principal scoring threat.

I like him. But I know jacksquat about the Portugal side, and I just started following PSG this year (do I get a door prize for being the newest fan on the board? ;) ).

In Portugal v Poland (4-0) game during 2002 World Cup, Pauleta scored three goals. It was surely enough for me not to love him, but it left in me some feeling between respect and fear :)
I think that this Portuguese striker is very non-Portuguese in his style. He is kind of 25-goals-per-season killer, king of penalty area in the nation of dribblers and skillful technical players. It can be good point for Portugal in WC 2006.

Well said...thats also the reason we think he doesnt do very well against the bigger teams....he needs people to produce for him to get the ball....He doesnt have alot of one on one moves if any, and hes losing speed because of his age....
Thats why alot of us think Vaz Te is alot more promising...because he has tons of speed....one on one moves is definitly there(toulon tournament)...We even think Nuno is good for the Nt because he likes to hold the ball and make through passes...something pauleta is also not very good at.

It is very Potuguese what you say, I think :)
Generally I think that in southern nations fans only respect players who are good dribblers and so on, Van Nistelrooy wouldn't be considered as football star in Portuguese league I suppose.
During Euro 2004 Pauleta was usually a lone striker. Maybe it would be easier if you had 2 attackers in your starting line-up, for example one who would be more technical and working for Pauleta, and Pauleta waiting for the ball in penalty area. I think he has very good shooting instinct and Portugal shouldn't resign from this striker.
I don't know Vaz Te at all. What club he plays at?

He plays for Bolton but is currently getting no playimg time...although he is young(18)...we believe if he was given a chance it would over for the competition....
Heres a little taste of him during the toulon tournament! Hes the one scoring the goal, the other player is Cicero who is currently signed in Russian(Moscow i believe)...he is also 18

Hot prospect. So maybe you will not have to miss so called Portuguese golden generation of Figos, Rui Costas and Coutos because your country simply produces many great talented youngsters.

Do we like Pauleta? He's only one of the best stikers in the history of the club. He might miss a few here and there, but how many have we had that were any better then him? Weah I suppose, maybe Simone, Maybe Loko before his mental collapse. Of course we like Pauleta.

You got that right...in Portugal almost every kid in the streets are like mini- Ronaldo's running around....matter fact, the kids i played with had more tricks then Ronaldo...things your eyes couldnt imagine!
We aren't worried about the passing of the Golden Generation...the Diamond Generation has began...and Ronaldo(20,Manchester United), Manuel Fernandes(19, Benfica), Quaresma(20, FC Porto), Moutinho(18 Sporting), Vaz Te(18 Bolton Waggners) are leading the charge...
Viva La Republica Portuguesa.....PUTAS!
