Guess the MISL is on thin ice these days so a new league with a new business plan based on a summer season when arenas tend to be empty like the old WISL may find a niche. Will be interesting to see if Gordon Jago and the name Dallas Sidekicks are part of this.

Or Earl Foreman.

Team Cuba. That should be interesting.

Hey I am all for pro soccer ventures in Florida.
However if you think this is better than MLS, you got major league issues.

I doubt it lasts the year. Have you been to the Miami Arena recently? Its a dump. In fact the city is still debating on wether or not to demolish it.

Not because its a dump, but because it has no real tenants. I'd hardly say its a dump......a little old and definetly overshadowed by the Triple A, but not really a dump.

Believe what you will. The city is truly trying to bulldoze it into obliviion and build something like a mall on top of it.

Yes, because its largely useless. The only major tenant they did have, the UM basketball team has their own arena now. Why hold on to a useless building when the land underneath has some real value?? Regardless of whether or not its a "dump".

Tongue was firmly in cheek, guys...what is it with some of you people? Little something called h-u-m-o-r...you're very sensitive, very defensive. If someone stared at you cross eyed in 6th grade, did you run to the principal?

Good thing I didn't actually specifically criticize MLS--you'd be signing up for therapy right about now, eh?

The concept of the WISL is outrageous and the success of the WISL is highly unlikely, I know....but for us fans that have 'loved and lost' an MLS team, we are always up for some expansion news.

And p.s....I was a four year Fusion ticket season holder--who would be back for the next MLS team here in SoFla, though that'll probably be a few years off...

The 'vanilla' remark was simply a reference in contrast to the early days of the league, you know, when attendance was up and teams were chock full of personalities. Unlike today.

The Florida Thundercats only lasted on year in the NPSL and that was a winter league.

Don't see how a summer league would last long either.

"With this league, fans get to root for their home teams with nonstop-paced, wall-to-wall action," said Heller of his league, which will include teams from the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba and Jamaica.

CUBA?? Hmm.. being that this isn't a FIFA league, how exactly will this work? The US will not be forced into allowing the Cuban team/fans into the US. Will all the Miami v Cuba games take place in some neutral country like... Jamacia? Will the US allow the Miami team and fans be allowed (legally) to fly to watch their team take on Cuba? Too many questions......

Suppose there are a lot of Cubans in Miami. Maybe they would be based there? Looks to me like this is maybe just a local Miami thing at this point.

I'm just wondering, what was so bad about Miami Arena that the Heat, Panthers, and U-Miami ALL ditched it within 10 years of its construction?

Get ready to laugh.... this HAS to be a joke right???

http://www.thewisl.com/

Nothing 'world' about it. Unless you mean the Brazilians living in Maimi, playing the Jamacians living in Miami, playing the Cubans living in Miami. Hmm... sounds kinda like Copa Latina... just indoors. lol

Sheesh...

The Miami Arena has no 'special' qualities. I used to work there with the Manatees. The Heat moved into the beautiful, waterfront AAArena. The Panthers moved to a much more attractive venue that was supposed to be closer to their fan base. And UM built an on-campus arena.

The club is doing most of its media work through Hispanic Newspapers such as the El Nuevo Herald. The Brazilian owners (who ironically speak Portugese as their 'home' language) seem intent on involving Hispanics right from the get-go.
