Just had to start the mandatory threads...next up is the "Fire Bruce Arena" thread.
And no, I don't think Cunningham = Jason Kreis, I think he's the polar opposite. Extremely gifted athletically, but extremely poor in the technique and tactics department.
But seriously, how are we to judge how JC and TT can do in a game with second tier midfield service?

Cunningham helped himself more than Twellman did last night.
I was expecting the Twellman = Kreis thread.
PS--Never mind, now I see that thread, too. :D

If only JC had the chances that Twellman did. If his shot in the first half doesn't get blocked then JC has his first international goal.

I see not getting the chances as being just as big of a problem. The guy reads the game at a 3rd grade level. He goes with speed when he needs to slow down and lay off, and slows down when he needs to go with speed. He runs away from the ball when he needs to check back...
Eddie Johnson put on a decision making clinic for him as soon as he was in the game.

I want to see more of him. I really want to see him as a 65th minute sub who runs the tired defence into the ground.........that is the "niche" I see him filling if he gets on the WC roster at all.

I absolutely agree. I do not want him as an 89th minute sub or a starter. I think his role would best be filled as a mid-second half sub who can with fresh legs run at a defense and continue the stretch an opponent defensively in the later stages of a match.

He was doing alright in tight spaces last night, as well.

How is it fair to judge our second tier midfielders in a game with third tier forwards not finishing anything? I believe our second tier forwards are both hurt (Ching and Casey).

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.
I'd say he's Roy Lassiter; too much speed for MLS, but not enough touch/tactics to make it even in CONCACAF play.
Since Wolff hasn't impressed lately, maybe (big maybe) Cunningham sticks as the guy who comes in around min 70 to try and sneak behind tired defenses, but that's about it.

But, see, that's all I want out of him .... a guy that comes on with 15 minutes left in the game who runs hard and fast at the D, picks up the occasional late goal, and keeps the defense from cheating up too much late in the game. HOpefully in the future he doesn't start.
I thought he played OK, a number of decent half chances. He would have scored had Twellman not been standing in the wrong place.

Passing the ball is not part of his repertoire.
On several occasions he received the ball with his back to goal. Instead of laying off to supporting players, he tried to turn with the ball, and was dispossesed.
Twellman has a better overall game. But he has his problems as well.
Unless we have a rash of injuries, I don't see either guy making it to Germany.

Cunningham tried to talk to Twellman as they walked off at halftime. Twellman walked away.

I just don't think the national teams system is suited well for him. Once he has the ball at his feet he is quite possibly the most dificult soccer player in the US to defend. I really don't see him as a roy lassiter type player. However, I don't think that this is a good game to judge him in, because he will be most effective in the last 30 minutes of a game first of all. Secondly, especially in this game no body was getting him the ball in a position to run at people, some people might criticize his runs, yet I think the checking back ect.. people are asking for wouldn't have made him more effective. That may be the problem, he is somewhat two dimensional, speed and dribbling ability, but opperating with his back to the goal is not his thing. Further, there was little sophistication in this teams play out of midfeild, and in my opinion having Twellman on the feild was almost worse than being a man down. In the end though his problem may be that this team hasn't been creating alot of goals out of the run of play and he needs top have a team oriented towards that end, in my opinion. I hope they find a place for him though, he is the only forward in the pool who I think has any business running at people.

I love how a lackluster experiment by the US "B" team produced so many Kreises. Anyone else we are missing?

Summed up my thoughts perfectly.
