Here we go again! I just know you guys have been waiting.

Sunday kicks off the Stanwood Prowler 05/06 season. This year we're playing U15 Gold, a step up from our Silver and unbeaten season with the U 14's.

The guys were still stoked with their run out to the State matches, where they went 2 wins and 2 losses. A respectable show but not enough points to move on. I think the coaches and parents were weary by then anyway.

We've lost a couple of key players this season and with the step up we're not going to have another season like last, if we go 500 I think we'll be fairly satisfied. The kids feel ready to go, most of them went to some sort of camp and it really shows. Then we ran our weekend mini camp that they enjoy with 3 UW soccer players that run a camp with really enjoyable but meaningful drills.

We hadn't been able to have any pre season scrimmages this year. We usually have a run out with the team that's a couple of years up on us but they keep it light. We've also been playing a U14 girls team for practice but they disbanded this season. So as I say, we're going in cold.

We managed to keep hold of Keith the Keeper! Our first season he played center defense and very well I might ad. Last year he went in goal and was a key reason, that and going to a flatback 4 with a holding mid, why we did so well. Keith also played JV starter as a freshman and is Sub keep for the varsity and played a few 2nd halves for them. This is the guy that all coaches want 11 of him on their team. He has a future in the game!

We're going to start with a 4-3-3 and see how that goes, been working on transition play where we can change to 4-5-1 in defence, breaking out to 4-1-5 in attack, risky but as long as the kids know it's total football and they have to revert when the attack breaks down.

One last practice Thursday night and we're off.

I'll let you know how it goes on Monday. Wish us luck...!

This is ok if you lost 4 or 5 of last years starters you might consider staying in Silver. You probably were automaticly deligated into Gold by your league did that happen? Being 50/50 isn't bad going into a higher division and missing a couple of your best players.

That would give me a heart attack. Have to play friendlies preferbly the best you will face in reguar league play to see weakness in your team before it matters. You can't do that now that would make me feel not prepared to play if it was me, but you have to live with it.

If one of your five up top players lose the ball the opponents in one pass are into your backs that's dangerous.

Good luck.

If one of your five up top players lose the ball the opponents in one pass are into your backs that's dangerous. Going forward we play the 5 in a 'W' with the mids backing up the 3 front men.
A sort of 1950's style.
If we have a problem when the opponents break for a counter, we can always have a D'mid jump on the attacker, a la Garry Neville...:)
