Can anyone explain this to me. FIFA relegates that only players thatof a country can play for that country, yet FIFA allows free reign of the hiring of mercinary coaches?
Doesn't it make sense that national team coaches should in fact be the nationality of the country they coach? It really seems like common sense to me. Has FIFA ever addressed this enigma or ever put out an official decleration on the justification of this move?

So should team physical therapists be restricted by nationality as well? What about office personnel and other support staff? How are you going to regulate it?

Coaches don't take part in the game directly
They are just hired by each country's Federation, unlike the players, who are selected among the ones that are ellegible to represent a given country

And who would Vatican City get for their coach? Il Papa?

Coaches from foreign countries have always been a part of all sports, including from the very first modern Olympics. How can a sport grow without such import? How could hockey have spread from Canada without foreign coaching, or even football from England.

so what your saying is FIFA never has addressed this issue to your knowledge.
I just want to know if anyone knew of any discussion on this by FIFA, i am not proposing they do it. I am well aware of what coaches do, and that they are hired by the respective federations. It just on the surface seems to be in conflict with how FIFA regulates players eligiblity for a nation.

Pretty much all sports have some sort of nationality restrictions on player who play in national teams (for obvious reasons), and simultaneously do not have restrictions on coaches. It's an accepted world sporting practice, has always been that way. The anomaly would be if FIFA actually DID put nationality restrictions on coaches, not the other way around. I don't really see the point of this thread.

Is this supposed to be some sort of snide backhanded pot shot? I guess my question just fits into the 99% of threads on bigsoccer then.
So since the head coach is hired by the FA's in a contractual sense and not selected then contract law governs the eligibilty of the coach. Because of this FIFA cannot officially declare ONLY a person of a certian nationality can be employed by a federation as it would be in conflict with accepted customary laws and norms.
I agree it makes sense legaly, so i must then conclude that the "double standard" is in fact a product of legal employment rights not a product of FIFA governence.
Thanks to all for answering my pointless thread...
