Great article. I find it awesome that something that in-depth and soccer-knowledge-assuming was printed in a major paper.

Steve Davis writes (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/soccer/stories/090705dnspodavis.12329509.html):

"Look no further than FC Dallas' Eddie Johnson for the perfect example. The young forward has a decent shot at a World Cup roster spot. But other young Americans scorers are right behind: Taylor Twellman, Clint Dempsey, Brian Ching, Jeff Cunningham and emerging MLS rookies Chris Rolfe and Scott Sealy, to name a few."

Scott Sealy?

I was under the impression that Scott Sealy was Trinidadian. He made his debut for the Socawarriors in 2004 (http://www.socawarriors.net/scott_sealy.htm)

I'd say in the New York/New Jersey area there are plenty of soccer knowledgeable people.... The fact that the Metro seems to have sucked for 10 years does not take away from that fact

Seally is tied to T&T - he played against the US in our last match against them.

Arena will carefully study players during these games. With perhaps only three or four friendlies being lined up for early 2006 – including one against Germany that could be announced soon – his opportunities to assess talent against international-caliber opponents are dwindling fast.

Why only 3 or 4? Excluding the '02 Gold Cup, the US played 9 friendlies prior to leaving for Korea in 2002. I hope this changes...

I'm sure it will. They always do a pre-tournament 'tournament', at least two games in a WC first round time frame, as a final prep. I expect the opponents for those will be drawn from the teams that aren't drawn into the US's group.

That's pretty cool, and I know it dovetails with MLS's long range plans to alter the season, but the question is: will fans come out to see it?

That is indeed interesting. I certainly hope that they do, because this facility will prove to be world class IMO.

There is certainly significant pressure for this stadium to be successful next year, not only for the team but also for the village of Bridgeview itself.

For those who don't know, S&P, a prominent rating agency just recently downgraded their long-term debt rating for the village one notch, sighting the debt levels of the community to be extraordinary.

Of course we don’t have the slightest idea of the details of the lease agreement between the town and the team, but I can tell you this, the town has significant debt service payments to make in the coming years and they want to make sure the team and AEG are given every opportunity to succeed.
