An article implies it might be 2022 - if then.
Austrailia wants 2018 (http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=afp-fblwc2018aus&prov=afp&type=lgns)
In it, the article implies that Sout Am will get it in 2014 after South Africa gets it in 2010. I had heard that the "cycle" started with South Africa, so I'm sure that Europe would want back in soon....
It might be a while.

Originally Project "2010" as they called it was designed to have the US in place to compete for the Cup when hopefully we would again host the Finals. Obviously they were a little bit off with their prediction on when we would again host the tourney... Hopefully they were a little late on how soon we would be able to compete for the championship :D

I am not against Australia getting the WC. But I have a sneaking suspicion that North America will be awarded another WC before South America.
Politics play such a huge role and who knows what with terrorism and such where the safest venue would be.

I think Australia should have to wait till Asia's turn roles around. Or are they trying to have their cake and eat it too.

does the US automatically get North America's turn? Seems like two-times host Mexico might have something to say about it.

I dont know if it would be so much politics but insted they may not have the capabilities to build new modern stadiums that are needed hold this type of tournament. Some of the facilities that I see on TV are just crap and would not be close to world cup standards.

I believe that the earliest feasible date for a CONCACAF Cup (USA and Mexico are the only realistic venues) would be 2022.
Supposedly there's some rotation system (I'm not sure of that) (http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/rno/red092005.html) that goes from each continental confederation with Europe taking roughly every other one
i.e.
1994 - CONCACAF
1998 - UEFA
2002 - Asia
2006 - UEFA
2010 - Africa
2014 - Brazil
2018 - UEFA
2022 - CONCACAF (?)

My understanding was that England would get a shot at 18 because the rotation doesn't start until after Germany.

Nobody has ever said UEFA would get it in 2018. Oceania will not get a turn, that's ridiculous, especially since Australia won't be a member of it after this year. It should be CONCACAF's (and the USA's) turn in 2018, or 2022 at the latest.

I'd assume Mexico would want to host the finals again, so there's going to be a lot of politics involved in CONCACAF's next bid. I was thinking that by 2022 you could have a joint Canada/US bid. I'm going to assume by that time there will be at least 3 SSS in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver). Maybe that would increase our chances of getting it.

I think our chances would greatly improve if it was a joint bid with either Mexico or Canada. Hard to see the prior happening, but who knows.......

I would hate to wake up early in the morning to watch the world cup again assuming Asia/or Australia get to host it.

The tone of the article is probably correct. The 'rotation' was probably never serious, and if it had been was bound to break down at some point.
i just want the WC someware we our dollar has a favorable exchange rate (ie non EU nations)

What's the possibility of South Africa screwing up the preparation and infrastructure prior to 2010 and it coming here?
Didn't Brazil or Argentina lose it in 1986 after they were named hosts and it went to Mexico?

I don't see how Mexico is gonna get any bids as long as they continue to hold the #1 kidnapping rate in the World combined with the huge corruption and Drug Lords around there. If Mexico does clean that stuff up then I wouldnt mind the WC being down there. Since I live in LA its just a couple hrs down holL@ :D

Yeah, but I thought that it might work out a bit better if it was Europe, N America, Europe, S. America, Europe, Africa, Europe, Asia, Europe.... etc. Still, it is bound to break down in that in Africa there's basically two places that could realistically host it: Egypt and South Africa. In Asia, it's Japan, South Korea and MAYBE Saudi Arabia.... It would work for a good while though, since the rotation would come back to that confederation only every 25 years or so.

Colombia was the original host of 1986, before it was moved to Mexico.

There was another thread about this that got started last week. Something I read in there was that the rotation may end up being a three way deal, not 6. With Australia joining the Asia from the next year on, there are no countries in Oceana capable of hosting a cup. What many said was that the rotation would be amongst Asia and Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
Really there are only a few countries worldwide capable of hosting the event, with the infrastructure needed today and the fact that supposedly joint bids like Korea Japan have been ruled out for the future. It would take not only a number of stadiums with the size and amenities for a world cup game (not just any 40,00+ seater will do) but security guaranties and the lodging and transportation needed to handle the fans from all over the world...
Americas:
United States
Mexico
Brazil
Argentina (maybe)
Canada (maybe)
Africa/Asia
South Africa
Korea
Japan
China
India (Maybe in the near future)
Australia
I'm not sure of who in the rest of Africa could host it.
Europe
England
Spain
Italy
Germany
France
Russia
I wonder even if Portugal who put on a great Euro 2004, but somewhat struggled to make it happen, could go the next step utp to a 32 team tournament.
