If I get to Germany (which I hope to do by any means necessary). I'll probably try and hook up with some long lost relatives on my mother's side in Dusseldorf, and then go from there. Hopefully they'll have the inside scoop on lodging and getting around and such.

Need some help here.... here are our plans.. flying from detroit to frankfort (staying with relatives in frankfort) for like a week.. then flying from frankfort to london to tour england for 10 days... THEN london back to frankfort, then frankfort home to detroit.. NOTE... det/frankfor and back are nonstops

we priced this out on luthanse, and we are looking at 1400 american... am i getting screwed here???

OR should we just buy tix from detroit to frankfort and they buy tix on ryanair (or another regional carrier) from frankfort to london and back...

never flown internationally before... so any advice would be helpful!!!! PM me if airfares/stratagies have been discussed earlier in this thread.....

I know Ryanair is super cheap....

A non-stop round trip between Frankfurt and Detroit should run about maybe $900, or $1000. That would leave $400 for round trip between Germany and London....

yeah... that sounds like too much between Germany and England...

Just a random question, but are any U.S. supporters going to base themselves in Wurzburg? I seem to recall that some Columbus-based supporters will be there, but wanted to see if anyone else was.

The Magpie

small group of us from michigan will be in frankfort

Orbitz lists prices ranging from $1082 to no more than $1192 for the dates of:

Between June 4 and 10
to June 21 and 27.

(first round is June 9-24)

$1082 ($800 on British Airways plus taxes)
depart Detroit June 5 to London to Frankfurt
return Frankfurt June 21 to London to Detroit.

Anyways $1250 isn't bad, but maybe you could find it a couple hundred cheaper on Orbitz?

I want to fly out of Chicago to any German city (preferably Stuttgart) and am wondering if anyone has found any great deals. I don't care about stops, or time of day the plane leaves. The best I can find on orbitz is about 1100, but this is the first time I've used the internet for this, so I could be doing something wrong. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice or already knows of any great deals from Chicago to any German city.

Thanks!

Just remember to do flexible dates, different airports... and if you are under 26 or a student, try www.statravel.com.

I went there and was quoted a good $200 less than Orbitz.

If you're a student or teacher (or have a .edu email address somehow), you can get access to tickets at www.studentuniverse.com They usually have good deals for international flights. Currently they have a Minneapolis to Amsterdam flight for only about $700 including all taxes and fees, you can fly cheaper depending on several factors like flight days and such. They're advertising $390 but I haven't been able to find anything close to that advertised amount.

The Magpie

I am considering Wurzburg as well.

Been there a long time ago and it was really quaint and strategically placed for southern GER venues I believe.

Have a place to stay already, but it'll be pretty convenient to Wurzburg (about 1 hour train ride), and it would be good to know some other U.S. supporters who might be staying there, as it's certainly a city I want to check out.

Thanks for the hint on studentuniverse. I'm not a student, but my two kids are!

Most direct flights to Germany go to Frankfurt or Munchen.

well, we got our plane tix.... detroit - london - frankfurt for $1236.00 maybe couldve done better... but this has very little switching as far as planes and leaves at a decent time for us. at least we dont have to worry about prices going up... and for you guys that havent bought tix yet, hopefully prices will decrease on whichever airline you take....

anyone know about renting cars in germany??? is it like renting cars here? will our auto insurance coverage here in the states cover us if we have problems over there? myself, i would rather take the trains or buses into frankfurt so i dont have to worry about driving or watching what i drink etc.... hope there is rail or bus service from where we are staying. (about an hour outside of frankfurt) we will get into frankfurt at 130pm on the 10th.. anyone know what time the first game kick offs will be?

I'll be spending some time in Cologne and Kaiserslaurtern have friends in both places. Also, Cologne is near Holland, so I'll be making a supply ;) run at the begining of the month.

Does anyone know about taking boats across?

I have a friend who had talked about riding in cargo of a ship, or flying to Iceland and staying 48 hours because it was cheaper than flying straight to mainland Europe...? I'd like to give him some info.

Hello!

I thought I'd introduce myself, since I'll be on these boards a hell of a lot more now that I just bought my tickets to Germany.

So, um, yeah. My name's Adam. Howzitgoin.

Luckily, my wife travels a LOT for work, and we were able to get two tickets LAX to Frankfurt almost completely with miles. We get in on the 8th and leave the 18th. My wife's parents work for Bayer, and they have a number of friends who live in Leverkusen, so we'll probably be staying there for a little while, and making day trips to any games we get tix for.

After my experience going to the Euro Cup in 2004, I'm less worried about tickets, but I'm more worried about places to stay.

I'm also looking forward to meeting people from Togo. That sounds cool.

Glenn Davis, who announced the last 2 WCQ games publishes an article weekly in the Houston Chronicle. He mentioned that Team-USA had chosen Hamburg as its headquarters for WC06.

One other item - has any looked into the TSRR through FIFA?

The TSRR (at this point) gives you 12 nights scattered in the cities your team plays in. For examples, it would give you 4 nights in Berlin, 4 nights in Cologne, and 4 nights in Stuttgart assuming "your" team played in these cities. You choose the star level of hotel and they give you accommodations in the host cities.

Were these types of accommodations available for WC02?

Does anyone plan on buying these? If not, any insights?

Thanks!
