The guy is a total ass. It was a mistake to even read it. I agree that the Concacaf is weaker this year, but the rest of his analysis is all wrong. Mexico is still a good test for us because they still get results against quality opponents. Our D-mid situation is still strong despite Armas starting. Armas was starting because we needed physical players for this type of match.
He thought the crowd was 50-50 with Mexican fans? That's totally absurd. He must be the only one who thinks that. It was more like 3/4 US fans and we were louder.
What an ass.

First was Steve Ralton's opportunistic header in the 55th that capitalized on a dreadful mistake by Francisco Rodriguez; Rodriguez attempted to head a free kick from Eddie Lewis over his own endline but instead put it inside the post, forcing keeper Oswaldo Sanchez to make a diving save attempt. The rebound, however, catapulted back across the goalmouth and Ralston was there to tuck it away. A nice moment for a veteran player who continues to demonstrate that there is plenty of spunk left in an MLS-lifer.
What? I stopped reading right here. Wasn't it Gooch who put a head onto this ball, or am I just imagining things?

The purpose of a column is to stir the pot, to get people talking, to take a position that causes debate. If you think he's an idiot, but you pay attention, and read the article, Fox Sports wins.
Trecker, in general, offers little insight and is often wrong. I've stopped reading the guy, and if that reduces hits to his articles, then the message is sent. Posts about him on BS feeds the machine as well, so best to ignore it.
You said it was a mistake to read it, so trust your gut next time. His column deserves irrelevance, so help him to find it.....

When I saw the name Trecker, I knew not to waste my time reading his column. The posts on this thread bear that out. What a shame that there are so few writers of soccer in the US and he has to be one of them.

Rodriquez said that he was the guy. But what Trecker fails to point out is that if Rodriquez hadn't touched the ball, Gooch would have.

Excellent post. I was very happy to see that his article, which I refused to read and has been up since Sat night I beleiev, didn't surface here for a while.
Sorry it did, but the responses are becoming less.
Don't read his article on FOX and don't add to the posts here anymore if it really matters to you. Otherwise he wins and he sits there laughing at you as you reply in fury.
My last post on Trecker ever. Hope many follow suit if they mean what they say.

the article isn't all that bad despite some errors of fact....
the 1st half was basically 50-50 with only the late free kick by mexico being a truely dangerous scoring chance...
still the usa 2nd half performance controlled the match....andf reflects the style usa needs to be successful....
I'd agree it might have been 80% usa fans and 20% mexican fans, but the mexicans made enough noise to make it appear to be more....
too many americans just casually watch the match, with tepid cheering....

I think even 25% Mexican fans is giving him the benefit of the doubt. I'd say 15-20%, by my eyes... It was more evident when the Mexican fans left with their flags and green shirts immediately after the final whistle blew (or earlier), and you could see how many US fans were still in the stadium going crazy.

Couple of things . . .
1) No dateline, no quotes. I bet he wasn't in the stadium.
2) The 50-50 thing about the crowd was dead wrong, further leading me to believe he wasn't there. It was 70-30 at best.

Trecker was there, actually, which makes his crowd estimate particularly baffling.

The guys I was hanging out with thought it was 40% Mexicans until I pointed out that every single Mexican was wearing green but there were thousands of USA fans not wearing red. People who thought it was a big Mexican crowd were being tricked into comparing the numbers of the two colors, without taking into account all the other colors.
Even comparing red v/s green we still had 60+% IMO.
I'd guess we had 80% total.

I agree. Also, Reyna, Beas, and Lewis head-and-shoulders the best players on the field? What about Gooch? Does he not concern himself with what happens on defense other than when the other team scores?
Also, I'm glad to see that USMNT dash Trecker's dream of them not qualifing for the WC.

What's more baffling is how USSF continues to give this asshat a media credential.

When did red become the official color of US soccer fans?! It's the color of Sam's Army, but I'm not going to apologize for sitting there in my blue 2002 World Cup jersey, next to my buddy was wearing a current home white jersey, and his son wearing a blue Donovan shirt.
I don't get this color thing at all........

It's really simple: red stands out.
Have you ever seen footage of a University of Nebraska football game? It's a sea of red. Extremely impressive.
Red is easy because it's bright and bold. The navy blue that the US wears gets lost in the crowd. White would work probably as well as red, but just isn't a "statement" color.
Please switch to red at the next qualifier you attend.

I'd guess we had 80% total.I thought it was ca. 30% Mexicans, and I was comparing green to not-green. Plus, I didn't really have a good look at just how green the scoreboard end was, because I was in the middle of it; I'm guessing that part of the stadium went a fair distance to offset Sam's Army at the other end.

I've been going back and forth on this one. Rodriguez's header led to a goal and almost went directly into the net. At the same time, he did very well to beat a bigger player to a very dangerous cross and almost direct it away. So, did he make a good play or a bad play?

Sat four seats down from him. He was there.
