(looked and haven't seen a thread on this . . .)
A move that many here probably expected: McBride has announce that after WC06, he's retiring from international play to focus on his club career.

Atleast we're lucky enough to have him through Germany.

Smart move on his part. Gain empathy from coach to secure a starting spot for WC06. Like... "play me because this is my last chance" sort of request. Why else would he tell us now instead of waiting after WC to share the news?

Brian McBride will turn his back on the United States following next year's World Cup.
I dont like the way they worded that.

McBride doesn't need sympathy to secure a starting spot for cripes sakes. He's been a consistant producer in nearly every qualifier he's started this round. Now, of course there's a line of strikers behind him waiting to take his spot but they're all pretty young and it's not as if they could do much better.
And this is coming from a huge Taylor Twellman fan!

You know, for years McBride has always seemed like just another guy on the national team, but he's become one of my favorites. He seems like a good guy, and every once in a while he pulls a rabbit out of the hat and scores a highlight reel goal. As happy as I will be that someone else gets a shot I'll be sad to see McBride put on the jersey for the last time.

What the hell are you talking about? Unless McBrides game takes a very serious turn for the worst the guy is a lock to play in Germany.
I have been happy to see his career turn out well. There for the longest time I thought he would never stay healthy enough to contribute when it mattered, but since '02 he's been great.

This is no surprise but McBride will be missed.
