The Prensa Libre reports that Pablo Melgar, who had been suspended for the Catracho's last game, has rejoined the team. Additionally, Mario Acevedo has been added to the roster.
Carlos Ruiz awaits decision from FIFA/Concacaf regarding his yellow card (his second?). Depending on the decision, he'll either join the Guat team or return to Dallas to train with FC. Dallas. Ruiz stated that there was some confusion when the ref issued the yellow card (Did Pescadito think he meant to show it to a teammate?).
Another Prensa article states that they now have consecutive games against the three toughest Concacaf rivals: The U.S. "The real Concacaf Giant" (they really wrote this), Mexico and Costa Rica. They also wrote: "The United States is considered a machine which plays a practical, fast and lethal futbol."
WC-Qualified countries, thus far:
Asia: Japan, Iran, Korea & Saudi Arabia
Europe: Germany & Ukraine
South America: Argentina & Brazil
North/Central America: United States
I'll, again, be traveling the next few days and will try to post translations if I can. However, hopefully some of the others can pick up the slack as they always do. Thanks.

can anyone remember a time when the Latin press was giving the #1 spot in the region the to USA? This has gotta be a first. I'm so used to the excuses for not winning, I guess they just got fed up.

That's gotta be a real killer for Mexico's ego. It's one thing to lose to the United States. It's another thing entirely for the press in other Latin American countries to say the United States, not Mexico, is the real CONCACAF giant.
I liked the "machine" comment too.

They must have seen too much of a terminator movie....Arnold Schwazeneger saying, " I am a machine....."

Now that the US qualified, I really want to see Guatemala make it. A World Cup would be so great for their country.
But hell, I didn't know they had that stretch of games coming up. That loss Saturday against T & T looks like a killer now. Maybe they can still pull it out and get the fourth spot and win the playoff.

Do you really think Trinidad and Tobago would be any better than Guatemala?

Yes. Thanks, uniteo.
One other thing I forgot, both La Prensa and [/i]Siglo[/i] published articles which state the obvious that in addition to hoping to beat the U.S., they need one of their perennial archrivals, Costa Rica, to be upset by T&T for them to have a more solid shot at a WC spot. They did both reiterate that the chances of the Ticos losing against T&T would be low.

a false dichotomy my friend.
I'm saying that hopefully the BEST TEAMS will go to the WC to represent concacaf, and if that means Uzbekistan goes instead of a minnow from concacaf, at least our region won't have egg on it's face like asia does with teams like Saudi Arabia and China. In that case they would also cut us back down to 3 slots. Everyone remembers the weakest region last WC, excluding the hosts.

IMO Gualtemala is a standard Central American team. How they do in the WC would depend on their draw and the skill level of their opponent. T&T strikes me like Nigeria from a few years back. Raw talent, undisciplined, but a hell of a fun team to watch. Forget defense, just go score type of mentality.
I don't know if they would be better, but ehey would be more fun.
