I really would like to know what everyone thinks about Sebastian Deisler. Do you think he's a good player?

IMO, he's nothing special. he is a good striker of the ball but with more power than technique and without great precision. But that's really it for the guy, he doesn't score, doesn't defend, can't dribble pass defenders, is not a good leader nd doesn't show command and composure. The only thing he's good at is sending in cross after cross and corner after corner.

What do you think? Please rate on scale of 1 to 5, 1=excellent and 5=worst player ever.

I voted for good. Its funny how the crappy players are placed udner the MLS players in the poll. It's also funny how Hitzlsperger is an example of the crappy even though he cored a goal from 40 metres out against you guys just one month ago.

I voted good even though I disagree putting Ballack , Zizou and Robinho in the same place.
And by the way, who is Dinho?

But i'd put it more as what's Dinho? :p

I'll assume its Ronaldinho, but i really don't know.

Why would you put Eddie Lewis as crappy? One..this is not World rivalries and two, I think he is pretty good.

Just stupid.

I have to apologize. I don't want my personal opinion to play into this..that is why I re-opened the thread. This thread reminds of the the useless flaming threads in the WR's forums and that is why I closed it in the first place. I think the poll could have been done with some tact, but, I will let slide.

I know what you mean DF, but we won't let it turn into a dumb WR kinda thing. We are way too good for that. :D

I think Deisler is good now, but has the potential to be great but always seems to have something slowing that down.

I don't think your comparisons on the scale are right, Robinho is far from great and Hitzlsperger is a very good player.

yeah i dont understand the need to include the american players or league in that manner, but getting back on topic...

i completely agree with sirmanc - short, sweet and succinct!

Deisler isnt good enough to play for national team or bayern.I dont know why he gets playing time while Schweinsteiger sits on the bench. He has very bad decision making, always looses the ball, his shots almost never on target even his crosses are bad lately.

Deisler is one of the best players of Germany, when he gets enough playing time (and if he can play without injuries and psychical problems). He was it just when he was a young player at Hertha. I am confident he will make it.

It's not meant to be offensive to MLS fans, the categories are World Class, International, European Leagues and then comes MLS players, that is the hierarchy of club football. The players I named in each category are just my own opinions and others will disagree. Personally I don't like E.Lewis and I put Ballack in the World Class category because he has the same kind of influence on the game as Zizou and ronaldinho.

This thread is about personal opinions about Deisler, I honestly think for the kind of expectation I had of him, he is honestly pretty crappy. I don't know why anyone who has watched him play can think he is any good (he's so 1-dimensional). It's not meant to incense anyone reading, it's just one man's opinion. If you think Deisler is a good German NT player feel free to post your own opinions, because I would really like to hear your reasons.

Exactly how I feel, Schweinsteiger has far more potential than Deisler ever did.

As for Hitzlsperger, I don't like his effort and he is far too slow. I watched the Slovakia game, he was constantly out of position and instead of running hard to catch up he just casually jogs back just in time to watch the ball going into the net. That kind of attitude really ticks me off.

But surely you've seen Deisler in his good form and when he is 100%....if you did, you know what he can do given those circumstances....now, as a coach, wouldn't you want to get that out of him? If not for his own good, then for the good of the team.

It's easy to give up on a player when you don't see a consistent run of form or the hyped up brilliance by the press or what not, but there is a lot more to it than that, it might look simpler on the surface but it isn't.

I've seen every game he's played in (except Pokal) for the last 2 years, but none before then. he's honestly never really impressed me in any of those games. Like I said before, I am sure he is an excellent striker of the ball, but he doesn't seem to have a high soccer IQ, he rarely ever gets pass his defender, his striking of the ball looks erratic and I doubt he has the mental strength to handle the high pressure of the World Cup.

For 3 or 4 years now I've waited to see a world superstar, one who's supposed to be better than Ballack!? Yet I haven't seen even one shred of evidence to support that. Maybe by not watching the pre-injury Deisler, I was missing something great like the fabled Lars Ricken people used to talk about.
