JMA was interviewed after the match against arsenal, apparently he had the time of his life, being a real noisy supporter instead if a president in a luxury box. whether it's schoolboy giddiness or something he already had in mind, he announced a bonus in the locker room of 200K€... not each of course, but even split up it represents about 4-6 months salary i'd reckon, so i'm sure the ladies were pleased!

Lyon have just signed two Scandanavian players within the space of a week. Norwegian international gk Bente Nordby and Danish international LB Dorte Jensen - both from Djürgarden - will be eligible to play starting January.

I hope y'all find great success with Nordby. She's a hell of a keeper and still among the world's very, very best.

well, when the women are getting you down there's always football, and when the football is getting you down... there's women's football!

the weather yesterday was just beautiful, and our sunday morning dads' match got a late start and ended about 1, so we just had a picnic in the parc de gerland and then stayed for the first half of OL-PSG. nordby and jensen's first match for OL, and it's too early to say how good they are, OL had about 90% possession and 95% territorial superiority! it was amazing the half ended only 2-0. i don't think nordby touched the ball once and bonpastor who usually plays the fullback spot but was moved up to the wing to give jensen a start was so active that there wasn't much play left on the left wing for dorte!

the match finished 4-0 but by halftime the suspense was gone and we really had to get gone too. after all there's more to a beautiful sunday than football!

Guignol, Inara: Do you know where I can find an OL women schedule online? I'm at the site now, and other than player profiles, I'm finding absolutely nothing.

I'm curious to see when they play next. Not to mention get a glimpse of how the French league's season runs. Depending entirely on the dollar's strength, I may be planning a trip to Europe within the next year or so.

The OL website is pretty slow when it comes to updating info on the women's team (though it's better than it was last year, that's for sure. And we should see some extended coverage before they play Umea).

The best place to check for up to date match info is on the French Football Federation (FFF) website. They run the women's leagues in France (as well as the youth leagues, the French Cup, and all divisions of the NT - just not men's L1 and L2).

Here is the women's Division 1 homepage:

http://www.fff.fr/compnati/femd1/index.shtml

And here is the schedule for OL Feminines:

http://www.fff.fr/competitions/php/championnat/championnat_calendrier_resultat.php?cp_no=131528&ph_no=1&gp_no=&sa_no=2007&typ_rech=equipe&cl_no=221&eq_no=1&type_match=deux&lieu_match=deux

I also like this website (http://www.foot69.fr/Jour-des-filles_r7.html) for latest news on women's football in the Lyon region (careful, it's not just OL Ladies).

I hope this helps. I'm sure Guignol will have more info for you!

inara's answer is pretty much the one i would have given, but i notice the schedule link she gave leads to the men's team. this should go to the ladies': http://www.fff.fr/competitions/php/championnat/championnat_calendrier_resultat.php?cp_no=133014&ph_no=1&gp_no=&sa_no=2007&typ_rech=equipe&cl_no=221&eq_no=6&type_match=deux&lieu_match=deux

note too that you can get the ladies' fixtures and standings on the OL site via the tabs SAISON => CALENDRIER => FEMININ
http://www.olweb.fr/index.php?lng=fr&te=3&pid=102001
http://www.olweb.fr/index.php?pid=106001&lng=fr&eqp=3

the only thing to add is that there are two supporters groups who follow the ladies: o'elle club and thehex@gones (hex@gones). the first has no real website, but the second has a good selection of photos. http://www.hexagones.org/galerie/index.php?cat=46 is for 2007/8 but from there you can navigate to past seasons too.

:o

One question about the website though. When you select "D1 retour" under the Feminin Calendrier it only goes up until the latest match. That is, they show the results but not the upcoming games.

Wow. A big thanks to both of you. You've given me plenty of sites to grab information and match results from.

So, based on the FFF site, the OL season usually lasts between Sept. and June? Good to know. The earliest I could probably get over would be late 08/early 09. I'm trying to decide if I just want to watch my Norwegians with their club teams (France, Germany, Sweden, Norway), or perhaps just watch the Algarve Cup and then catch Nordby play for OL.

Thanks again! I've added them to my ever-growing list of women's sites. :)

Lyon vs. Umea is right around the corner. :D

Apparently, 8500 tickets have been sold, and the club is hoping for more. They'll also be putting up Valenciennes vs. Lyon on big screens after Lyon-Umea to attract more supporters to the stadium.

Lyon are hoping to break attendance records for a women's football match in France.

And here are two nice articles on UEFA. The first is in English, the second in French. I'd translate it, but I'm running late (plus I'm not that great at it anyway, and google might make more sense than me :o).

Lyon ambition continues to grow (http://www.uefa.com/competitions/womencup/news/kind=1/newsid=676043.html)

Olympique Lyonnais have every chance of extending their UEFA Women's Cup debut as they prepare for Sunday's semi-final first-leg against two-time winners Umeå IK.

Preparations
While Umeå's season effectively started on Monday with their 3-0 defeat of Djurgårdens IF in the Swedish Super Cup, Lyon are well into their domestic campaign. In their last competitive game on 16 March they beat Evreux AC 9-0 to move eleven points clear of Juvisy FCF, those goals making it 69 scored in 16 games, with just two conceded. The Umeå game on Sunday will be played at Stade de Gerland, followed by a big screen broadcast of the men's Ligue 1 trip to Valenciennes FC, in the hope of setting a national record attendance for a female club game.

Brazilian reunion
On Tuesday they warmed up with a friendly against Les Epicuriens, a team of former OL men's professionals, and were beaten only 4-2 with a Sonny Anderson hat-trick. Compatriot Katia scored both of the goals in reply, and she is looking forward to a reunion with another Brazilian, international team-mate Marta, who leads the line for Umeå. "She is skilful and quick," Katia said. "But here we believe that we can do it. We have the players to advance. It's the reason I came to Lyon."

L’OL sur un air de samba (http://fr.uefa.com/magazine/news/kind=512/newsid=676080.html)

This is a nice look at the histories of Lyon's two Brazilian women, Katia and Simone.

Wow. I hate to say it, but this match definitely snuck up on me.

Fingers crossed, OL shirt on, Nordby cap on, etc. I suspect Umea will be a little tougher than Arsenal LFC.

Oh ... Any word of any online broadcasts or anything remotely similar?

Currently, the ladies are leading PSG 2-0 in the Challenge de France (women's French cup) final. If they win this game, they will have won the double (they already won the title).

That would make it doubles for both the men and the women.

OL 3 - 0 PSG

The girls were just as good as the boys… except that then went further in Europe :D

Bravo, un quadruplé !

i'm ashamed to have let this thread languish, since les poupées (i can't believe olweb calls them that ) have deserved much better. I was hoping the challenge final would be on C+sport, W9 or something like that, but at least the TF1 announcers gave them some props at the beginning of france-colombia. a double double is great, but JMA will not rest until we are the first club to win the european double!

Just thought I'd add the following ...

Bente Nordby did a lengthy interview in a Norwegian magazine calle Blikk. The article PDF, with photos can be found here:
http://www.blikk.no/img/publish/2008/06/Blikk_0608_14-17.pdf

And the translated article is posted here, in the Women' Int'l Forum.
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=14981423#post14981423

Granted, my translation may be a little shaky, but she says they're not allowed to buy food on away matches, nor can they eat ketchup or butter on their food.(?)

I thought butter was France's fifth food group? (It is down here in the South U.S.)

Granted, my translation may be a little shaky, but she says they're not allowed to buy food on away matches, nor can they eat ketchup or butter on their food.(?)nutrition has been taken very seriously by french footballers for years now. flo malouda caused a big stink in the english press when he expressed surprise at the poor diet and habits (in french we talk of hygiène de vie) of players at chelsea, and the first subject that got le guen in trouble at rangers was his trying to limit players' drinking... in response to which the captain took the team to newcastle on a binge just to show who was boss and where their priorities were.

for the general population btw, butter is a big part of cuisine in normandy and some other regions, but in the greater part of france olive oil is much more common source of fats. in our home we generally never have butter in the fridge, and only buy it on occasion for particular recipes, like baking cookies.

A term of endearment no? :D

I have never been much of a fan of women's football, but I would love to see les poupées take on the Arsenal ladies. Now that would be a match to see, 2 of the best teams in europe. I guess I can only hope for an UEFA cup clash though.

you do realize that they already beat arseladies like the redheaded stepchild in this year's quarterfinals?
