I was sitting opposite the player bench in the lower level and all flags and banners were banned from the rails in that area, per US Soccer. Someone from Security said they didn't want them showing on TV or something. I'm sorry, but WTF? Anybody know more?

They've got that lame grey US Soccer banner running the length of that side of the stadium. Don't want anyone covering it up.

Way to go, Fed.

Way to go, Fed. There was no US Soccer banner, though. Just a rail with nothing on it. At first they said don't cover the Crew sign, so we raised up the flag so it wasn't near the Crew sign. Then, they came and said they didn't want any flags opposite the TV cameras.

Looks like a politics and current events thread to me. Freedoms being stripped away little by little.

Don't worry guys, soon Sunil Gulati will be in charge and all of our problems will be over.

I sure hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Next there will be a no standing rule because the people sitting behind you can't see and oh, while you're sitting down please don't yell either. Some of the families have complained that you're too loud. Won't somebody please think of the children?

During USSF controlled Men's and Womens games photographers are only allowed on the endlines, nobody on the side opposite the team benches. FIFA allows photogs up to the top of the 18 yard box on the far side.

Several MLS teams also restrict photogs to the end lines, mostly under pressure from TV broadcasters who don't want photographers in the background of their shots.

Looks like a politics and current events thread to me. Freedoms being stripped away little by little.

I remember some years ago when George Steinbrenner imposed a ban on signs and banners at Yankee Stadium. Many of the signs of course had been critical of George himself.

George was allowed to do it because it was his stadium. Likewise The Crew, the USSF, etc., retain the right to dictate the terms that they'll accept banners being displayed. It's all there in the fine print. Fans forfeit many rights when they go through the turnstiles and always have.

Sucks, I know, but hardly a recent phenomenon.

I agree with Nancyb that flags and banners would've looked great as a backdrop visual.

Even though I'm not OK with the rule, it's fine if they enforce it, but they should insist on enforcing it equally all-around.

I didn't take my camera into the game with me, but does anyone have a picture of the huge Mexican flag that was draped over the railing just above the pitch and covering the USSF banner? I swear there was one located along the sideline opposite the player's benches and about even with the 18-yard box closest to the Sam's Army sectoin. If so, would anyone be willing to forward that to the USSF and ask them why they insist on us removing any US flags/banners that cover their banner, but yet allow our opponents to do just that? I think they should account for their actions...or in this case, the lack thereof.

I think that was held over the banner by hand, not actually attached to it.

That was my first national team game, so I may have had expectations that were out of kilter, but I'm still surprised that our guys couldn't bring in horns of any type.

Believe me, that's a good thing. We don't need those stinking plastic horns. Now, a nice trumpet, that'd be good.

One of them was a trumpet, and the other was a rams horn. (I think that's the term for it.)

The problem is, for every nice trumpet, we get 10,000 of those awful plastic horns. It's a fair price to pay, I think.

why cant we hang banners and signs and flags along the touch line?

seriously, is there a reason for this?

We need more plastic horns! They make great megaphones so that my singing/cheering is even louder. I've seen you post quite often that you dislike the plastic horns...why?

They are just awful. Just awful! They sound awful. I can't explain it anymore than that.

That's sick. Why are they alienating their own fans? We should be able to express ourselves.

After 5 years of sitting next to an adult who blows his damn plastic horn at DCU games, I never want to hear another one of those things in my life. They hurt my ears and sound like crap.
