There are others... but none anywhere near as consistent so I'm gonna put these two forward as the best.

Vote.

If you think it is someone else then go ahead and put them forward...don't say Riquelme or Ronaldinho or any of that type of player because they often make the decisive play and thus their pass success rate drops considerably in comparison to players like Veron, Beckham etc.

personally I Believe Xavi from barcelona is the best in the world or at least hes better than Pirlo and Becks

firstly Xabi Alonso is better than both of 'em, and I'm biased so I'd say Bergkamp.

LOL, any thread where Pirlo is honestly getting compared to Beckham.

Who started this thread? Nike?

Beckham is undeniably the best long ball passer in the world. I don't watch Pirlo play too much, but I can't imagine his long balls being as precise and consistent as Beckham's.

Watch some of Milan's games and see where Shevy is getting his assists from.

Can you read? What is the point of such a moronic statement except to make yourself look very, very stupid and ignorant? I mean.... wtf would Nike...who do not sponsor Beckham in any way... make a thread giving him plaudits for a start...so, your wit is flawed...we've worked that much out. As for your contribution..why even bother?

And if you're seriously suggesting Beckham's distribution is less than anyone elses..You will clearly be able to come up with 5names who are easily superior to him in this field right?

He is not in the same class as Pirlo, you idiot. Watch Real on a weekly basis and then tell me otherwise. Funny you should make this stupid thread the day after Becks looked good against Wales for God's sake.

BTW, you want 5 names. Here you go: Pirlo, Totti, Veron, Riquelme, Xabi Alonso, etc. Shall I go on?

Clearly you belong in world rivalries and not an adult thread. And your wit is atrocious. If Beckham 'looked good' to you yesterday then you shouldn't have the gaul to comment in any thread that asks for an opinion!

and of your '5' names only 2 can hold a candle to Beckham's distribution. I won't waste another reply on you.

Pirlo is a better long passer than Beckham. I am speaking as a fan of both AC milan and Real Madrid. I watch almost all of their games the last three seasons. And I thought Beckham wanted to be Pirlo by playing the middle, but failed.

Alonzo wins hands down. I remember there was a game for Sociodad where he completed like 50 passes with like a 100 percent success rate. But its really hard to say who is the best passer because there are two different qualities that can make you a good distributer. First is natural skill, like beckham or gerrard. Becks can send pin point passes over long distances, gerrard can do the same thing on ground. But there are other players that use their intelligence, they see opposing players running one way, then others running the other direction and somehow can find the right time and space to release a defence splitting through ball. Ie. Bergkamp, Zidane ect.

So for the best distributers in the world I would say

Alonzo
Xavi
Ronaldinho
Pirlo

Agree, I actually think that are several better long passers then beckham today. One example is ronaldinho, He can pass the lengh of the pitch with both feet, and he does it with class and he does it alot faster then beckham.

Well, I think Beckham is the best long passer in the world right now. There are quite a few players in the world that can pass better in short distances and make better decisions closer to the opponent's box, but I don't think there's anyone better than Beckham in passes that are over 30 meters. I'm sure Ronaldinho is capable of delivering long balls, but he's not usually playing deep, and so he rarely gets an opportunity to even try a long pass to start a counter attack. As far as Beckham - well, the last 2 games his clubs won because of his long passing - first a long ball from his own half to Robinho after interception, who created Real's winning goal; and yesterday Cole's goal was also started by a long Beckham pass.

But he only sent four to five of those passes in his last three years with Real Madrid. Pirlo had four to five in every games.

Pirlo has greater frequency but he also has mobile targets to hit the ball in to. Madrid tend to play 'static' players rarely run into space - you wouldn't see Pirlo hit so many a game if he was part of Madrid's midfield. This is something to factor into each players' team. If you're playing for a team that move a helluva lot i.e Barca, Milan, Arsenal you have a lot more opportunities to spray a pass.

I remember one, I think it was a champions league game...maybe against Barca I don't know...but anyway. Shevva was a meter in front of his marker, started, Pirlo passed over I guess 35 meters and Shevva recieved it when he was a meter past his marker. While this a lot for Shevchenko, it says even more for pirlo, who decided in a slplit second where it was to go and put it exactly, but I mean EXACTLY there.

Brilliance. Pirlo without a single doubt. And I'd dare to say above anyone at the current time.

Perhaps. but Liverpool is not a good passing team. In the
Prem (from what I see of it) there are at least two or three
teams better than them at the passing game (Arsenal,
notably) and certainly in Europe Liverpool look fairly crude
next to the likes of Barca, Madrid, Milan, Inter.

If Alonso is the maestro you say he is Liverpool's passing
should be much more harmonious/ sophisticated.

I like Ronaldhino's passing a lot but I notice he doesn't
always "run" a game; he will sometimes drift around the
box waiting for passes and sometimes goes absent for
long periods. Deco might be a candidate for this poll, and
for simple string-pulling Pirlo is up there, he is always there,
directing traffic, for both Milan and Italy. His 'use' of the
ball is on the whole very sound, and sometimes inspired,
too.
