I'm asking this question by assuming that the performances of concacaf and asian teams at 2002 wc gave them an extra 0.5 qualifying spots.
then assume Australia reaches wc then its quarter finals in 2006.(earning OFC an extra 0.5 spot which means 1 spot requires no play off)
And Australia leaves OFC and joins AFC.
So what will happen to OFC qualifying ?
Australia does the job and the rest gets benefit from it or not?
Will we see solomons at wc?

OFC will play off against Asia in 2010. Nothing else will change.

Without Australia, it's doubtful the OFC will get an automatic World Cup spot anytime soon. It would be logical to the 2009 OFC winner in a play-off with an AFC team, but they might be paired up with CONMEBOL just like this year. Then again, the OFC winner could get drawn into a playoff with UEFA or CONCACAF. Either way you cut it, OFC will have a hard time sending a team to South Africa in 2010. Australia's move to the AFC will benefit the Socceroos greatly, in the long run.

Simple. New Zealand will probably win, and then lose to somebody from another conference in a playoff.
At some point, look for New Zealand to also join Asia.

I see the OFC region eventually dissolving completely. Without Australia, the OFC region is doing itself no good by staying a confederation. Eventually I see AFC accepting all OFC nations and there will be 5 regions instead of 6. Once this happens there will probably be more preliminaries in qualifying weeding out the weaker teams yet maybe having them play in group stages at neutral sites. That would be ideal I think.

I don't see why they'd want to change anything. They can carry on playing against each other, can't they? I'm not sure they'd want to travel to distant places like Iran for a complete battering.
It'll just be New Zealand who get to lose in the World Cup playoffs every four years, instead of Australia.
Am I missing something?
