View Full Version : Which manager for which nation?

Have you ever had a thought that a particular manager is too soft or too rigid and wrong to make the best of the players at his disposal the most effective team xi they could be?

Like, not having the balls to drop underperforming stars or those who are living off reputation, not giving youngsters in stunning form their chance...etc I think there are a whole bunch of NT managers who are not making the best of their situation and this is a thread where I implore everyone to give their opinion of which manager could turn things around or improve them for a NT.

Here are mine:

England

Scolari. He is masterful tactically, he really doesn't care for reputations, demands respect and you actually have to deliver to be(and stay) in his team. He would take that team by the scruff of the neck and turn all that potential into something solid and tangible. He'd probably drop Beckham, play a 3man CB system utilising Rio-Terry-Campbell and have a proper DM in midfield allowing Lampard and Gerrard to do what they are supposed to with SWP and A Cole flanking...I think he'd make England serious WC contenders. Who could doubt if those players clicked in the correct system with Rooney that they couldn't go all the way?

France

Hiddink. He'd get the attack flowing and not reliant on one man. Actually getting them to utilise all that pace and potential to absolutely stretch teams rather then play narrow with players who aren't comfortable in their current roles. Henry would immediately be put on the left side of a front 3 Trezguet in the middle with Wiltord/Govou/Cisse fighting it out for the right fwd position. I think Hiddink would make France a devestating team again. Their width would be frightening as they are without a doubt the fastest NT in the world.

Spain

Luxembergo. A big fat set of balls is needed...who better than Luxemburgo (except Scolari [taken] ) to supply them? Instead of meandering along with pretty football that has no belief and seemingly no purpose Spain would gain a ferocious cutting edge and a be allowed to play their flambouyant style but with a new impetus and focus. I also think he'd remove the prennial underachieving mentality they have developed from the sub concious. Like England, all that potential would be untapped with someone like Luxemburgo at the helm.

State who and why they would change the fortunes of a NT.

As soon as he left Brazil I thought we should have done everything to get him in charge. I've always thought he would be a perfect fit.

Rijkaard at Brazil... they aren't going to play defence any way... and we know what his philosophy on defence is... and if we don't we can guess by the fact that Van Bronkhorst and Belletti start opposite each other :)

In many ways the Barca team is similar to Brazil and while I was joking at first I think Rijkaard while he may not be a great improvement over the current, he'd do well enough in harnessing the attacking potential to atleast maintain...

that said, I think he's horrid. as a coach.

Wait a minute, Rijkaard is horrid as a coach? Then how did Barcelona win La Liga last season?

I can't believe nobody has anything to contribute to this.

because he's got amazing players... they've got a top 3 player in the league in defence: Puyol, midfield: Deco, playmaker/forward: Ronaldinho, forward: Eto.

not to mention Marquez, Xavi, and Giuly.

I'd like Hiddink for the United States. He's taken a small nation in terms of soccer interest, player pool, etc. fairly far in the World Cup. Granted they were the home nation and they did get some nice calls(Spain game) but the Korean's were well prepared and I think Hiddink could do wonders with the sleeping giant that America is.

I could be mistaken but I'm think Hiddink spent some time here(America) as a coach as well.

Ok, I'd like to see Danish coach Morten Olsen coach England. From a neutral standpoint, I've always been a fan of Danish one touch style of football. I keep saying to myself: "What could this guy do, if he coached a more well known side that played so defence-minded?"

Hiddink has proved he can get results anywhere.

But might I suggest Cruyff for Germany.

And Rijkaard had nothing to do with it? Nothing at all? What about Holland's good showing at Euro 2000? All down to the players was it?

Arsene Wenger for Cameroon or Nigeria.

Instant credibility in the dressing room, a style of football that I believe would be tactically sound and attacking, and with his attention to detail and ability to organize...I think he could be the man to get an African nation into a World Cup final.
