Tiago scored for Portugal against Serbia in a Euro 2008 qualifier, and Benzema (yesssssssssssss) scored for France yesterday in a friendly against Austria. :D

Was Benzema used as a striker?

Was Benzema used as a striker?it was cissé off/benzema on... but where cissé-anelka pair was a classic point+support pair, benzema and anelka were both very active and creative; the result was interesting, and it was clear nico was having a ball playing with karim... and of course nasri too, benzema and he are almost blood brothers.

a word for clerc too: he touched the ball more than anyone else in blue during the match, and it was clear that he and samir clearly have quelques atomes crochus as well!

Latest international goals:

Tiago's goal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1m55pJzglY) against Serbia. He does love those lobs and chips.

Benzema's goal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Yv_tMiBJjI) against Austria.

Baros's goal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mtiw8c5Lmng) against Germany.

I couldn't find Muller's goal against Jamaica. So then I did some research - andI discovered that it wasn't Muller who scored against Jamaica. It was Streller. I guess the OL website mixed up the names.

11 lyonnais saw NT action this weekend.

beside the 5 gones who all played 90 minutes in blue against the ukraine, tiago did as much in portugal's 2-1 victory in belgium. for the czech republic and baros it was only half a loaf: 0-0 in wales with milan being subbed out at halftime.

sweden's nil against denmark had more goals, 2 from elmander, but with källström (injured) things might have gone better. switzerland did well in a friendly against argentina (1-1) during which muller played the whole match and was, according to the swiss press, "perfect... even if he plays too rarely at his club, he's indespensable...".

and beyond the A's...

in brest against romania hatem ben arfa replaced dmitri payet on 50' and looked sharp enough to make one think that had he started the bluets might have done better than give up a nil for their first qualifying match.
finally the U-20's beat japan 5-1 in toulon; loïc rémy played the whole match and scored the 4th goal; sandy paillot came on at the half.

Yesterday, Portugal and Kuwait had a 1-1 draw (how embarrassing for Portugal!), with Tiago starting.

Also, Argentina beat Algeria in a tense 4-3 win. Nadir Belhadj scored the last Algerian goal. You can see it here (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x26l2l_algeriaargentina).

Actually, even more embarassingly, it was a kuwati club team. It wasnt the national side.

According to the website, Belhadj scored twice from fks, and offered an assist to the other Algerian goal. :D

5 gones will go to slovakia for A and A' friendlies: clerc, réveillère, squillaci, toulalan and benzema.

it's great news for RVR who hasn't been picked since his lackluster showing against germany almost 2 years ago... a bit cruel for him since he had done well in his preceding caps.

two players who likely would have gone if not for injury are coupet and govou. for greg it's not going to hurt his chances for 2008, but for sid the case is dodgier. 34 players is a lot and ray may just whittle down from here instead of adding more hopefuls.

elsewhere, källström be with sweden in göteborg to face the USA, and baros will go to austria with the czech team. none of the others travel as far: müller and switz host the netherlands in geneva, and the more "exotic" matches are taking place in france: algeria - brazil in montpellier and ivory coast - egypt is in paris, so neither belhadj nor keita will be far from home.

ben arfa will be with the bleuets to face italy in la spezia.

the italian team that will face hungary is yet to be named. grosso will hopefully get a spot on it.

at this stage of the season it does little harm, the fatigue isn't there. and guess what? the players like getting a cap. i think it motivates them and i don't agree callups are a bad thing unless it's just a few days from a big match.

Same here. I think a call up is great experience and an honor for the player. Alot of fans dont share my sentiment however.

Grosso is back in the Italy squad. :)this is a good thing too.

unless there's a semi-conflict with an important match, these fixtures can do a lot of good. if france A or A' or both wallop slovakia, it will bring us pride and confidence.

I feel for Bodmer. He really deserves to be on the NT.

Grosso is back in the Italy squad. :)

Good thing Doni came out with his list before the Lorient game.

My neck is sore from nodding in agreement with you, lol.
I think caps are great too, give the players a break from each other
and the same constant rountine; plus they only irritate me after the winter break,
when cup matches and European fixtures start piling up with reg. league
fixtures.

we all saw what happened to our boys in bleu... at least toulalan looked good!

on other fronts let's start with the best: that's kongo kimmie källström scoring the winner in sweden's 1-0 victory over the USA!

nadir belhadj played the whole match at left midfield for algeria, who looked to steal a match from brazil no less. they had the upper hand in the first half but kaka and ronaldinho coming on at HT proved too much for them.

milan baros played 90' in the CZR's 1-1 nil with austria

kader keita played 90' in the CIv's 0-0 nil with egypt

last and least, fabio grosso played the second half against hungary... the same second half where hungary scored 3 times in 15 minutes!
