Ricardo Oliveira is going to take 6 months to recover.
I would say Fred has guaranteed his spot on Germany.

almost a year since this thread saw any action (although there was the OL in germany thread for the WC), so it's time for ressurection.
of course our gones had a hand (and a head) in beating world champi.... no, i can't say it... italy earlier this month, and källström scored with sweden, but let's look forward... to the seleçao's two friendlies against kuwait and ecuador in the beginning of october... fred's in dunga's group, and i don't think it's to be a wallflower this time... in 6 selections he's played 288 minutes and scored 3 goals!

I don't understand why dunga won't call up cris! if there's one thing brazil lacks, its reliable central defenders (though alex from psv who did get the nod is a monster back there). Other than lucio though, IMHO, there's no better brazilian pure defender (anyone who plays wingback doesn't qualify) in the game right now. though my opinion is CLEARLY biased :)

Cris is WAY better than Juan. I really don't understand why Cris doesn't get the shot he deserves. I'd argue that he's the best Brazilian defender.

and two for les bluets! benzema and berthod (he's been on the pro squad so long one tends to forget he's still only 22) are going to play israel home and away on the 7th and 11th Oct.
i also need to add...
tiago is on scolari's list for azerbaijan. don't laugh, portugal needs to win this and big to get going in their group...
and müller will play for switz in a friendly against co-hosts austria. it's a funny situation for him since he's a dual national; he plays for OL under an austrian passport to avoid extracommunity status.

toulalan was given his first start for the blues, and www.football365.fr rated him as the most impressive player on the field!
Toulalan : 7
they also were impressed with malouda's play on the couloir gauche, claiming that with each game he's solidifying his position and importance on the FNT
unfortunately, three gones took knocks, abidal, coupet, and govou (hey good thing they're not important or anything...) but all injuries seem to be relatively minor, so they should be back with the team sooner rather than later..

karim benzema come as a replacement in the 76 minute, and play well (he was must to start, briand and nasri were weak), in france u-21 lose to israel (yeee:) )

how they chose briand over benzema is one of the puzzlements of the century... as for nasri, the espoirs are now forced permanently to do the same as OM had to do in their last match... have nasri fill ribery's spot. and the man who captained the bluets until recently, toualalan, was also on the A-team last night, as was clerc... the problem isn't so much that france's youth players aren't any good, it's just that so many of them have just recently made the jump to full international.

this week's international friendlies could provide a big lift to our team; a chance to play high quality matches with medium pressure but big boost in confidence in case of success.
portugal beat brazil 2-0 last night, both fred and tiago started.
tonight källstrom plays in egypt, baros in belgium and müller in germany.
most important of course is france-argentina. with 4 gones starting and govou likely to get playing time too, this could be the jumpstart we need!

Tiago had a very strong game behind Deco, his close range passing allowed portugal to mount/sustain countless attacks. Fred had a solid game as well, active upfront throughout (a rarity these days for the selecao), and created a couple of decent opportunities. Nothing spectacular, but two decent performances nonetheless.

I thought it was pretty funny when Fred argued that Tiago should get a yellow card! It just goes to show that no matter how good friends you are at your club, that changes when you're in your national jersey.

Which is why it was utterly ridiculous how much flak C. Ronaldo took for telling the ref to send off Rooney.

Grégory Coupet, Eric Abidal, Jérémy Toulalan, Sidney Govou and Florent Malouda all started in France's victory over Lithuania which you can read about elsewhere.
Milan Baros scored a superb goal in the CR's 2-1 loss to Germany.
Tiago played the whole 90' as Portugal got closer to the frontrunners of group A with a 4-0 thrashing of Belgium.
Fred started and played 75' in Brazil victory over Chile by the same score.
Hatem Ben Arfa played 70 minutes in the espoirs friendly 3-1 victory over Denmark.
Nadir Belhadj played left MF for Algeria who beat Cap-Vert 2-0 to stay top of their CAN group.
Finally, Patrick Müller scored in Switzerland's 2-0 friendly victory over Jamaica.
Kim Källström and Sweden will try Wednesday to increase their lead in group F against Northern Ireland.
