*ahem* yes, i was going to copy that here, also a link to http://olweb.fr/fr/club/historique_va.html and http://olweb.fr/fr/club/presentation_va.html while also promising myself to start a translation of
in the meantime, this deserves to be here:
The Key Moments
3rd August 1950: Olympique Lyonnais created
1959-60: the Argentinian Nestor Combin, nicknamed "Lightning", author of historical goals, is recruited.
1960-61: Fleury Di Nallo, "the little prince of Gerland", future author of 220 goals, starts his career at OL
1963: Coupe de France final against Monaco (lost 2-0)
1964: OL wins the Coupe de France against Bordeaux (2-0) and reaches the semi-finals of the European Cupwinners' Cup.
1967: OL wins the Coupe de France against Sochaux (3-1)
1968-1969: André Guy is top scorer of the Championship (28 goals)
1969-1970: Serge Chiesa, “the little Mozart”, arrives at the club.
1971: final of the Coupe de France against Rennes (defeat)
1973: OL wins the Coupe de France against Nantes (2-1)
1976: final of the Coupe de France against Marseille (lost 0-2)
1983: OL relegated to Division 2
June 1987: Jean Michel AULAS arrives with an ambitious project ("OL-Europe"), intended to get the team back up in Division 1 and to qualify for a European competition within 4 years
1989: OL gets promoted to Division 1
1991: 5th place and a place on the European stage
1993-1994: Abédi Pelé, Pascal Olmeta, and Manu Amoros join the club
1995: OL finishes second in the Championship; the best result since its creation
1996: OL loses the final of the Coupe de la Ligue to Metz (0-0, 5 penalties to 4)
1997: OL wins the Intertoto Cup
1999: OL recruits Sonny Anderson (in what is then the biggest French transfer); he ends up best striker of the championship with 23 goals
21st July 2000: a momentous meeting between Olympique Lyonnais, from those who gave it its history, and/to the Lyonnais themselves, on the day of the club's fiftieth birthday, with sparks a passion without precedent in the history of the club. With animations throughout the streets of the city; the presence of more than 150 former players of the Olympique Lyonnais; a superb match between OL and Benfica; fireworks at Gerland, and various official receptions, the day was long, very long... and rich in emotions.
2000: 7th November 2000... 22h38. In the roar of the Gerland stadium, for the first time in its history, Olympique Lyonnais qualifies (against Olympiakos) for the second round of the Champions League, and joins, to its supporters' greatest joy, the very best clubs of European football. OL will get to meet in its European quest Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Spartak Moscow.
2001: OL wins the Coupe de la Ligue against Monaco (2-1 in extra-time) at the Stade de France. It finishes second of the championship and Sonny Anderson finishes Golden Boot with 22 goals.
2002: OL obtains its first title of Champion of France and qualifies for the third consecutive season for the Champions League. The club also wins the Trophée des Champions against Lorient (5-1)
2003: OL wins the title of Champion of France for the second time in a row, a record not achieved in French football in the last 10 years. The club is qualified for the 4th consecutive season for the Champions League (another first, in French football). The Trophée des Champions remains in Lyon, after a victory against Auxerre 2-1. Sonny Anderson, the talisman, leaves OL after 4 seasons, 94 goals and 171 matches.
and as we know, it didn't end there :)

with the traffic created by the real madrid match, we just shot past the OM forum in number of posts. n° 1000 should come soon, maybe we should have a small celebration when it does!
sure we're not the biggest forum on the board. but to paraphrase the bard of avon:
SB333: O that we now had here
But one thousand of those johnny-come-lately chelski fans
That do no work to-day!
guignol: What's he that wishes so?
No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to lose, we are enow
To do our club loss; and if to win,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
Aulas' will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
Rather proclaim it, That he which flies to dusty silverware already won,
Let him depart; his ticket shall be refunded,
We would not cheer in that man's company.
This day is call'd the feast of Aimé.
He that loses his voice this day,
Will rouse him at the name of juninho.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly with tablier de sapeur feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Aimé.'
Then will he show his scarf,
And say 'This I wore on Aimé's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember these names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Carew the giant, Wiltord and Malouda,
Diarra and Tiago, Cris and Cacapa.
This story shall the good man teach his gone;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that jumps with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall make him lyonnais;
And gentlemen now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks
That cheered with us upon Saint Aimé's day!
