UPDATE: CONMEBOL Qualifying
Ecuador gets a 2-1 win in Bolivia, putting them on the brink of qualification. A win in one of their last 2 games would do it.
Paraguay wins 1-0 against probably a young useless Argentina squad, and they squeak by. They do probably only need 1 more win to qualify.
No body talks about this region, but its pretty tight coming down to the end. Peru and Venezuela play later and the loser is out for sure.
Uruguay and Colombia go at it tomorrow, and Brazil will cinch up a spot against Chile. After tomorrow we will know more about who has the best shot at the 5 spot, but a colombia win would all but eliminate Uruguay, Peru or Venezuela and Chile. We'll see
im off to watch the USA....ill be back on later

UPDATE: CONCACAF Qualifying
DONE: USA HAS QUALIFIED with a dominating victory over Mexico. Mexico came to play in the first half and could and maybe should have led, but the USA totally outplayed them in the 2nd and deserved to win.
Mexico still in great shape, 1 point in 3 game will see them through.

UPDATE: CONCACAF Qualifying
FT Costa Rica Pastes Panama 3-0 costing Panama dearly. they're done. Road games at USA and Mexico remove their mathematical hope.
Costa Rica get 3 big points and a win over T&T on wednesday will basically see them through.
Till tomorrow. Big games in S. AMerica and the vital Ivory Coast-Cameroon Matchup Later

Panama scored at the end and lost 1:3, not 0:3.

That should do it for the canaleros. They have Mexico and the U.S. away and Trinidad at home. Only potential for a good result is against T & T, but if the soccawarriors are in that race for 3rd or 4th, they could overturn Panama's hopes. T & T would certainly NOT want to go into their last match with Mexico needing a win to have a chance to qualify for the World Cup. A draw may be enough, but a win might be asking too much. Credit to Costa Rica for the road win. They must have really dominated tonight.

HT: Zimbabwe over Rwanda 2-1. ZIM still with the outside chance to qualify, however slim it is. Good to see Rwanda play like the game means something, although they were eliminated some time ago.

UPDATE: CAF Qualifying
only 2 regions in action but its a big day. Africa is out to an early start and 1 score is in
Zimbabwe 3 Rwanda 1. Zimbabwe's win keep them alive for now in the world cup hopes, though with Angola and Nigeria needing wins, their hopes remain slim. However, as a silver lining it appears that they will get no less than an African cup of Nations birth
at HT Cape Verde island are tied with Congo DR (Zaire) 1-1. Cape Verde doing very well for them will put themselves in a spot to get a cup of nation birth with a win, but the group is tight, and while DR has a shot at the world cup still, Ghana is in the drivers seat.

UPDATE: CAF Qualifying
FT: Angola 3 Gabon 0. Now Nigeria is sh1tting themselves. They totally have no control over this group. Angola wins in Rwanda (not totally hard prospect) they go to the cup. Nigeria will probably thump Algeria today, but if they lose Angola is in, and if they draw, they're just stupid.

UPDATE: CAF Qualifying
FT: Congo DR 2 Cape Verde Islands 1
Cape Verde played hard and big, but have a ways to go to get to the African Nations up. Stuck in maybe the best group overall (5 squads of over 10pts) the islanders played hard but are now out.
Congo DR still with life for the World cup finals, but must win at Bafana Bafana in their last match and see Ghana stumble, a tough road considering Ghana's easy road with only a trip to Cape Verde after dispatching Uganda today.

it appears that Togo did get an early goal on Liberia in the 57th by Adebayor. The listing shows that the game is in stoppage time, 1-0 for now

I'm watching the Ivory Coast match on PPLive (Guangdong Sports). It's very entertaining and extremely open. Still, first time I've ever seen an African Qualifyer, and I have not been impressed with the quality of football - Ivory Coast and Cameroon look quite average. Both sides are making quite basis errors and the quality of balls into the box/passing in general has been generally poor. On this evidence, I woudn't expect either of these sides to make any great inroads at the Finals next summer, though I concede that the pressure of the occasion may have a lot to do with the poor quality of play.
Mad atmosphere in Abidjan, though!

FIFA's man in Lome must have been glued to the Ivory Coast-Cameroon match ;) . Togo has apparently won 3-0, so that eliminates Zambia. All they need is a draw next month at Congo to make it to Germany. Senegal can return to the World Cup with a home win over Mali and a Togo loss.

UPDATE: CAF qualifying
FT: Togo 3 Liberia 0
Win keeps them 2pts up on Senegal and now a draw at Congo next month will see them qualify. Good for them.
Ghana leads Uganda 2-0 and will want to pour it on if they can, to leave little doubt on their trip to Cape Verde next month. They currently hold a +6 differential on Congo DR, South Africa has been eliminated.
but unless S. Africa tank, Congo DR will find it hard to win say 5-0 over Bafana Bafana, giving Ghana the spot in all but an extreme case. but Ghana's work is not done today

8 minutes left in Abidjan. The match is still very open. The Ivory Coast hit the side-netting with a shot (looked like it went in) and Cameroon just had a shot well saved by the Ivorian 'keeper.
