Interesting situation we've got here. Several stations I visited today in NE Ohio were out of 87 octane fuel. I have my ticket and I'm praying I can get a fill up before I go because I can make it there and back on one tank (just barely).

But, if I can't get a fill up by Saturday afternoon, I'm going to eat the ticket. I assume many are in a similar situation.

You can't use higher-octane gas?

Seriously that is one hell of a funny post by the man in Youngstown...

It's what, about 10 cents more per gallon to go with 89 octane gas. Which when filling up the tank is an extra $1.20 - $1.50 if you are totally running on an empty tank. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't seem like that much money now does it?

I guess I wont have any problems since my car can only take 93 octane. :)

There are probably a hundred gas stations in Youngstown. Maybe two hundred. They are not all out of 87 octane gas.

It's good to have an expense account :D

These same people will have no problem paying $5 for a bottle of water

I was told to never put higher-octane in my car (Acura RSX). Some cars simply dont need it and it could damage your car to use it.

A car that is designed to take a certain octane gas can take higher octane gas without any damage at all. It won't improve performance like many people think but it definatley won't hurt the car in any way.

If you're worred, just go with the midrange stuff (89 octane). Hell my car takes 87 but I'm stuck using 91 right now because of the heat.
Top off that badboy and get down to Cbus!

locals: what is gas up to in/around Columbus?

on the low end: $3.09
on the higher end: $3.40

a good site to get overall info: www.columbusgasprices.com

keep in mind though that it's a 3 day cycle so the "low" prices being shown are before the big increases.

No kidding! I am driving down from O'Hare and back again in a span of 24 hours. It sort of makes me wish I didn't opt for the "full size" rental car. I am guesstimating that the total gas bill from Chi-town will be about $100. Am I way off?

It should take abotu 2 1/4 tanks for me, which is a hell of a lot better than for those coming pretty far out

A little research on the subject...

Check out post #15...I was also told by my car dealer not to put high octane gas in my Mazda3.

The point is, I wouldn't do it on a regular basis, because it's a waste of money, but it really won't hurt you to fill up with higher octane gas just this once.

Plus it will get you to the game, and you won't have to eat your ticket. Even though it's high in fiber.

Next?

Any word on gas availability from Atlanta on north to Columbus? We're looking to leave Friday evening, probably at around 6 or 7. I'm getting all kinds of conflicting reports about it.
