Ok. My boys got WAXED but that is ok, I can live with that. At least we managed to arrange this kind of friendly, thanks to our new Chilean Director, Jorge Alvial. It was an ambitious undertaking. The club went to Aruba and played two friendlies in March and won them. That was an important step as well but this is a big jump in technical class. Here is an English translation for those who are interested:

In a game of notable on field intensity and not so "friendly"--especially in the first half--Club Deportivo Palestino imposed its technical superiority routing the Puerto Rico Islanders 5-0 in the 2005 Friendship Cup.

"Here there were no clear tactical strategies. The idea was for the fans to enjoy a good event, a good game and I hope that it was appreciated. It was a pretty game, clean and a pleasure that our club perfomed on the field the way that it did" stated the Technical Director of the Chilean side, Fernando Carvallo to El Nuevo Dia just seconds after the conclusion on the encounter attended by 3,128 spectators in Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon.

Palestion, a club which competes in the Chilean First Division, imposed its organized attacking rythm from the first minute of the friendly encounter, controling possession of the ball and limiting the opportunities for the Puerto Rican side which is in the midst of struggling to qualify for the United Soccer Leagues playoffs.

On only two occasions, the 22nd and 24th minutes--a surprising shot from half field by Petter Villegas, Islanders midfielder, did the Chilean goalkeeper, Felipe Nuņez have to make a save. The visitors finally succeded in penetrating the Puerto Rican armor when, on a corner kick from Lucas Nania to the six yard box founf its way to the head of Leonardo Monje and scored in the 31st minute, giving Palestino a 1-0 lead.

Barely seven minutes later, midfielder Rodrigo Toloza placed a precise pass to Nania who fired a left footed shot that beat the home side's goalkeeper, DAN KENNEDY. That is how the first half ended, 2-0, despite the facte that Palestino had apair of other additional opportunities o increase the lead.

Puerto Rico, which will play its last three home games next week, executed various personnel changes at the beginning of the second half but the result was the same: complete domination by the Chilean side.

Goal by Monje in the 62 minute by way of penalty; German Tagle in the 75th and a goal by Toloza en the 85th minute against the new keeper Andres Gomez completed the scoring sheet. Once more the Islanders had another scoring chance but no could not capitalize.

"You saw superior technical ability, but most significantly superior tactical ability. Without a doubt it was a case of a second division club facing a first division one, but the important thing is the experience that the Iclub gained" stressed the Chilean Jorge Alvial, the Islanders Director of Personnel and Soccer Related Issues.

Palestino's visit to the Island concludes tomorrow with a math against an assembled team, Puerto Rico All Stars at 8:00pm at Juan Ramon Loubriel.
