I am doing some excel stuff (explanation here (http://usasoccer.blogspot.com/2005/08/what-im-working-on-currently.html)). I wrote:
Once I get done, then I have to go through and check the lineups for each team's MLS season, to make sure they match mlsnet's stats for appearances/starts.
So that's what I'm doing. I was going to do it player by player, but an easier way is to count the number of subs made in all lineups, and see if the total matches to the team's number. I just started with my first team, Miami, and on 1999 I have a problem already. I was 1 off. Jim Rooney is listed with 8 starts & 4 sub appearances, but he only shows up 11 times in the lineups I got off mlsnet. By counting the minutes, I'm missing an 8 minute sub appearance somewhere. So now I've got to find it.
Basically, I'm hoping one of you people has a media guide for Miami which hopefully would help me figure out where the missing appearance is. Do all media guides list all the lineups, or just the ones for that specific team? Anyway, thanks for any help in advance.
This probably won't be the last time I need to do this, so that's why I created this thread.

Well, nevermind, because I found it already after going through the game summaries on Soccer America. Check this out:
MLSnet summary (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive_game.jsp?year=99&content=0919miasj)
Garth Lagerwey, Leo Cullen, Jeremy Aldrich, Jay Heaps, Brian Kamler (Arley Palacios 54), Jeff Bilyk (Nelson Vargas 57), Henry Gutierrez, Pablo Mastroeni, Tyrone Marshall, Welton, Eric Wynalda
SoccerAmerica summary (http://www.socceramerica.com/article.asp?Art_ID=51823)
Lagerwey 5, Cullen 5, Aldrich 5, Heaps 5, Kamler 4 (Palacios, 54th, 5), Bilyk 5 (Vargas, 57th, 6), Gutierrez 4 (Rooney, 71st, NR), Mastroeni 5, Marshall 4, Welton 4, Wynalda 5.
I think that maybe it should be the 81st minute, but it doesn't really matter. It just pisses me off that MLSnet has this stuff wrong.

Found another mlsnet lineup error. CJ Brown is listed in 2003 with 19 starts and 2 sub appearances. I could not find the second sub anywhere, so I had to use Internet Archive and look through the matchtracker logs until I found it. Look at this:
8/30/2003: NE 5-1 CHI
mlsnet summary (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive_game.jsp?year=03&content=08302003_CHINE)
Zach Thornton, Orlando Perez, Jim Curtin, Kelly Gray, DaMarcus Beasley, Chris Armas, Jesse Marsch, Evan Whitfield, Andy Williams, Damani Ralph (Dipsy Selolwane 80), Ante Razov (Nate Jaqua 78).
This time, SoccerAmerica had it wrong too (summary (http://www.socceramerica.com/article.asp?Art_ID=562133722) ).
There's a clue on mlsnet, because it shows 2 subs for the Fire, but only 2 unused subs. But they really should fix this crap. Finally, I found it in the matchtracker (http://web.archive.org/web/20040106093142/http://www.mlsnet.com/games/03/tracker.php?gamename=08302003_CHINE&version=pvp):
CHI -56th Minute. Substitution: 2-C.J. Brown for 6-Kelly Gray, 56 minutes played.
Somebody's gotta do this hard work, might as well be me.

3rd error I've found. mlsnet is missing a 1999 Andy Williams sub apperance:

More mistakes (non-lineup):
For Miami's 2nd playoff game against DC in 1998, Joey Martinez came on as a sub (link (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive_game.jsp?year=98&content=1004dcmia) ). But, he's not listed on the playoff stats section (link (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive.jsp?year=1998&content=stats_team_pl) ).
Chicago Fire in the 2000 playoffs. Stats page (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive.jsp?year=2000&content=stats_team_pl) lists Josh Wolff with only one appearance for 20 minutes, when he actually has two.. He played 20 minutes against the Metros in game 3 of the semifinals, and 31 against KC in the MLS Cup.

Another mistake. 1996 team stats (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive.jsp?year=1996&content=stats_team) are missing Metrostars player Andrew Restrepo. I noticed the numbers didn't add up, and found him on Metrofanatic.

Mods, please change the title of this thread to "mlsnet mistakes."
Wellington Sanchez played the 1998 opener for the Metrostars before being traded to LA, but he's missing from the game summary (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive_game.jsp?year=98&content=0328metla).
Soccer America (http://www.socceramerica.com/article.asp?Art_ID=15381) has it right.

5/10/2003 Metrostars vs DC United. Tim Regan appeared as a sub, but is not listed in the match report. He wasn't even in the matchtracker, that I found via Internet Archive.
mlsnet (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive_game.jsp?year=03&content=05102003_DCMET)
The process of elimination told me he had to have played in this game, and finally I found it (http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:W79ng_gHCWMJ:www.metrostars.com/gameday/2003/05102003.shtml+metrostars+regan+%22may+10,+2003%22&hl=en&client=firefox-a) .

Pat Noonan sub appearance missing for the 8/30/2003 game (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive_game.jsp?year=03&content=08302003_CHINE) , even though he obviously played in it because he assisted on one of the goals. He came on for Fabbro in the 59th minute (link (http://web.archive.org/web/20031017170427/http://www.mlsnet.com/games/03/tracker.php?gamename=08302003_CHINE&version=pvp) ).
In addition, I'm missing a Kenny Arena 2004 sub appearance for the Metros. See if you can help me by clicking here (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240723).

8/25/01: SJ 5-2 COL (http://web.archive.org/web/20030707115901/www.mlsnet.com/games/01/0825colsj.html)
Carrieri scores the first for Colorado, second is an own goal off a deflected shot by him. Looking at the stats, this must have been credited to Carrieri later on, but the mlsnet match report still lists it as an own goal.

I don't think they go back and edit match reports. I've seen that before.

I'm missing a Zak Ibsen substitute appearance for LA in 1999. He made 23 appearances, 9 starts and 14 off the bench. Eliminating the 22 other games he played in, that leaves me with 10 possibilities. They only made one gk sub, so any game with three subs already I eliminated.
There are six possible games he could've appeared in:
5/1/99 at MET (0-0)
5/29/99 at CLB (1-1)
6/19/99 at DC (2-1 win)
7/4/99 vs MIA (1-2 loss)
9/4/99 at MIA (2-1 win)
9/11/99 vs CHI (1-0 win)
If somebody could look this up in a media guide I would really appreciate it.

Not sure if you have access to archived wire reports, but here are Ibsen's stats from The Sports Network ...
4/26/99 6 GP, 2 GS, 238 mins
5/2/99 7 GP, 2 GS, 239 mins
