You know what, my sister wasn't allowed to read Judy Blume. My grandmother got all bent out of shape over "Are You There God?"
I just remember they were my sisters favorite books when she was young. I think every girl read them.

Hey Steph, i hope you gassed up yesterday. I filled up my car last night and gas was $3.01 a gallon for regular. I hear that Atlanta is way worse than that. Its crazy.

Hey Steph, i hope you gassed up yesterday. I filled up my car last night and gas was $3.01 a gallon for regular. I hear that Atlanta is way worse than that. Its crazy.I left for a luncheon meeting Tuesday afternoon and gas was $2.64. Filled up when I got back that afternoon at $2.73. Now all over south ATL prices ranged from $3.23 to $3.49 per, low end. If that station has gas.

It's one unappealing aspect of this freakin city... Considering how many of us are northern transplants they freak out over the prospect of some snow and buy bread and milk like the world will end. Same mentality carried over yesterday. Rumors of $4 gallons grew into prospects for a shortage, grew into there is a shortage, grew into immediate panic!! Self fulfilling prophecies, all because of haste and nerves.

For someone who filled up both vehicles the day before, you'd think I'd be less angry! Then again, it still cost $80 bucks to fill a Saturn and a minivan.

I know what you mean. What I do is force myself to eat them by not packing anything else and not bringing any money to work.

Oh, and Ryan, wherever you are, they're playing "AC/DC Bag" on WMMR in Philly right now! First time ever. It's a VIP Listeners A-Z weekend, in which VIP listeners submitted requests via the web during August, and they're playing them back now. Very fricken cool!

Mr. Palmer = VIP listener

:D

that is awesome...I loved it when I turned on the weather channel and heard "Divided Sky"

Mr. Palmer = VIP listener

Just like Roger, he's a crazy little kid

Unfortunately, it's the only Phish song to make the cut.

Here's the list in full:

http://www.wmmr.com/extra01.shtml

Seems Philly is a Zeppelin town, as there are 45!!!! Zeppelin songs on the list. Followed by 37 Stones and 29 U2.

The thing that gets me is that there are only 4 Beatles songs on the list:

Get Back, Oh Darling, Something, and The Long & Winding Road

That really surprises me.

Oh, but there are 8 Skynyrd songs...

It raises an interesting point that I think we may have discussed on here already. The Beatles seem to have been relegated to classic rock and oldies stations, whereas the Stones are still on most rock stations around the country.

I have a theory as to why the Beatles are on "oldies" stations and the Stones are still on current rock stations, despite the fact their best stuff was written about the same time.

Oh yeah............ well its really has to do with technological advances in the studio. The Stones have rerecorded and recorded their music and its sounds like it was just released because,.......well it was just released. The version of "Satisfaction" most people imagine in their head wasn't the original release.

The Beatles didn't record a thing past 69-70, so it sounds 35 years old because it is.

I'm sure they haven't rerecorded anything. There's plenty of 60's stones material that sounds dated. Mother's Little Helper, all the r&b covers on the first few albums, Their Satanic Majesties Request. Ruby Tuesday, etc etc.

It wasn't until Beggars Banquet that their sound became consistently timeless, mostly because of the heavier american blues influence that was introduced on that album. That's my theory at least.

Beggars Banquet also came out in 1968, the year that most studios switched from four track to eight track tape recorders. The White Album was the first Beatles album recorded on an eight track recorder and sounds alot less dated than Sgt. Pepper's. The only other "Real" Beatles album recorded after the White album was Abbey Road (which also sounds pretty modern, Let It Be doesn't count..). Obviously every Stones album recorded after Beggars benefited sound wise from improved technology as well.

I think you're right about the heaver American blues influence. When you think about it, what's most "rock" we hear on the radio based on now? Chicago blues cum Led Zeppelin.

Alot of the Stones music has been remastered, but not rerecorded. The Beatles music has been remastered also. I think the reason that the Beatles are more dated is just the subject matter, it doesn't match up with today's world, and its really pop music. The Beatles were an optomistic band in an optomistic time. When you look at the world today its alot easier to think "Gimme Shelter", than it is to see "Strawberry Fields". Plus theirs a certain coolness factor, the Stones were cool then and their still pretty cool, just as people/icons. The Beatles were definitely more fun then cool in their heyday, but they haven't gotten any cooler with age, they're kinda boring and lame.
Edit: I disagree with your assessment of the effect of recording technology. It's not the recoring that makes the music dated, its the music. If you recorded Scott Joplin tunes with Sixty four tracks and Protools, its still gonna sound dated, know what i mean. Record Green Day on a four track, its gonna be Green Day. Just look at the White Stripes.
