I believe you are correct! I remember your post but i couldn't find it. Despite a certain Manc who claims to have thought of it after you posted it, you are the true author of this thread name. But i haven't got any rep to give you. :(
I did suggest it though...

however apparently Highburygoon suggested it in another thread before me... that's what a post a few posts later said... bummmer.

I was just kidding around Cam, there really is nothing else they can do. The Astrodome is a start, but its gonna take alot more than that to deal with the refugees. The magnitude of this disaster is beyond anything we've seen in the USA in our lifetime.
I know, wasn't trying to be a jerk. You are right though, this is going to be a major undertaking for a long time getting everyone figured out. I really do think NO is going to be closed for business for many months.

I don't remember the gas lines of the '70s but I have visions of that happening here because the refineries are shut down and they are talking about fuel shortages in the South...... It could be worse though-I could be in NO or MS right now...........
Not all the refineries are in LA. A good portion of the gas in the US comes from the Houston/Texas City area and they are up and running. Many of the refineries on the east and west coasts will be able to help. The price of gas is really starting to go up because of media hype and public fear/psychology. There is plenty of oil and plenty of places to accept it.
I think there will be another spike in prices in a few months though once some of the refineries have to switch over to making heating oil for the northeast. That will leave even fewer refineries for gas. :(

In a case of unforunate timing, there's a great brewery/restaraunt here in Newark that's having a month-long Cajun themed beer dinner special:
Oh, as I was typing this up - just got this email from them:
I'm not a big seafood eater, but I'm definitely more inclined to have this dinner today than I was on Monday.
That is a great idea Mike! Make sure you have a Dixie Beer and enjoy some Dash Rip Rock tunage and pray for the folks in NO..... :)

I honestly think its going to be years before New Orleans is even close to being what it was a week ago.

What about the natural gas that comes through Lousiana? Aren't there alot of pipelines down there? I'm not trying to be a chicken little, but i think alot of people in the media are underestimating the severity of this disaster.

Anybody that has a soul in them loves New Orleans........makes me sad to believe what you posted feej-but how could it be anything other than true...... :(

There are a lot of pipelines there, but there are plenty all over and gas and LNG facilities elsewhere. Plus, natural gas does not need to be refined and it is abundant in many places besides LA.

Exactly. NO has been burned, flooded, etc. many times before. It will be awhile, but it will be back up and running.

This is the time, I believe, for a "Girls Gone Wild" telethon from NO. I mean think of all the revenue NO has helped generate for this beautiful startup comapany? :p They should step up and give back!

Just curious, but is anyone worried about this plan to evacuate the Superdome by bus? I'm not really sure that Greyhounds can navigate in 4 feet of water. I hope it works, but i think they may need a better plan. Right now using buses sounds about as realistic as evacuating those people on Mardi Gras floats.

The highway is right next to the Superdome and if they need to cross water, the army has portable floating roadways the people can walk acriss to get to the busses.
