I'm a long time member of these boards and a US soccer fan since the 1970s (and also the son of Guatemalan immigrants). I'm wondering if there's anyone else like me out there: Mexican-American, Latin American-American who will root for the Nats vs. Mexico.

In part, I ask because there's a radio producer who's looking for people like me/us for an interview. If you're interested , PM me and I'll give you the contact email (or PM me your email to pass on to the producer).

To tell you the truth, the only time at all I feel conflicted about rooting for the US is when we play Guatemala... And even then, I root for the US. This year, I'm hoping we clinch versus Mexico because my 96 year old grandfather in Guate would really like to see HIS team go to the World Cup before he checks out to the big stands in the sky.

American born to a Peruvian mom & American dad. Lived in Peru until the age of 10.

Unfortunately, I'll be on a business trip through Thursday, and then preparing for the Columbus trip. If he'd like to do the interview next week sometime, I can help.

NASL,

I think your abuelo's dream may come true (I ain't tryin ta jinx ya at all, pibe). With Jamaica and Honduras waaay out of the equation, and Panama/T&T being all sorts of erratic, Guatemala must "Pongan juevos, que ganamos" if they have to play the Asian team in the playoff or better yet, handle yo bidness and get 3rd lugar in CONCACAF.

Your situation is admirable, but like most immigrants, following the home country vs. the USA occurs more than we think (and this is not restricted to just Latinos either).

I was born in Mexico, but raised in US and I support the US.

I will admit though, that before the game at Azteca, the rampant racism on BigSoccer really PISSED me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cubano born in Cuba and Support the USMNT even when they play the Cuban communist bastards.
As much as we might feel good sentiments from our respective home lands there is no better place in the world as my country, The United States of America.
I hope we never use last names to restrict ticket sales to fans with names that might sound like they are not from here, (Ramos, Reyna Balboa....) many of us have those names but are as big or bigger supporters of the national team than many with common names.

My son and I will be there in Columbus with the US, in Sam’s Army section 138.

QUE VIVA LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS!!!!

I was born in Bolivia but grew up in the US. I root for the US because I want to see the sport grow here and because of the dispicable way the mexicans (mis)behaved at the last World Cup.

SO wait the only reason you're a fan of USA is because Mexico plays "dirty". That's off the wall. I like that.

Please provide an example of racism. If you're talking about contempt, then there was plenty of that. And it was well deserved.

Please be less casual with accusations of racism. And while you're at it, please consider the context of comments that you find unflattering.

By the way, thanks for supporting the US. That's nice of you.

Not the only reason but a damn good one. Anytime I get to see Blanco cry like a little girl it's like Christmas, New Years Eve and Carnaval all rolled into one. :D

That's nutty. Anyway cool. What if you could see Bolivia play frequently, live that is, would you root for them? USA vs Bolivia, who you backing?

Bolivia. I saw them play at RFK when Bolivia beat the US 2-0. The best part of that was having DC United sign Jaime Moreno a week later after he torched the US with a 60 yard run. I fly home to see Bolivia WCQ's when I can.
