This might a truly soccer themed post that actually deserves to be in the Politics Forum.

Yes, I want to see Israel in the World Cup.

indeed that was an option, yet as the qualifying games are coming to an end soon it seemd like the right place to post it.

I do not think you put it in the wrong place. But this thread has little chance of remaining a discussion of football, and that is unfortunate.

Well, politics and soccer tend to intersect somewhat freely on this board. In fact, this thread reminds me of the "USA Question" thread we had several years ago. So it does belong here, but it will be moderated very closely.

And I mean VERY closely.

I find it interesting that the "no" and "embarres" voters did not post a message as well. I said yes because I like to see the smaller nations get a chance on the big stage.

Folks - I just deleted several posts. Please don't respond to posts that detract from the discussion here. Just report them and the mods will deal with them. Let's give this discussion half a chance.

Yes I want to see them make it. Aside from the political angles, I want to see them go and play well with the 2 Arab players they have make strong contributions to the team. For me a great sight would be seeing one of the Arabs score a goal and be mobbed by his teammates. Unity at its finest.

Sports can transcend politics from time to time.

back to the discussion. as an israeli one might think i want them to make it, but it's more compicated than that. in case you haven't watchd the israeli team on this campaign you should know that the scores do not tell the entire story. the team plays horrible football, insanly defensive and disgusting add to that time wasting techniques not seen for 30 years and you'll understand my mixed feelings. i wann make it to the world cup, but not like this.

So they have adopted a very CONCACAF style of play? :D No really you see that alot here where teams bunker and waste time, especially against Mexico and seeing it more v the US.

You support your nation, no matter what. Criticizing tacticts is fine, but how can you ever have "mixed feelings" about them having success?

Well, Switzerland can still qualify with Israel.

I don't see it that way, same as i don't support everything my country does off the pitch, i don't think that the bottom line is everything. i don't wanna make it to the WC and become the laughing stock of the world.

I would love for them to win and get placed in a group with Iran or Saudi Arabia. And while I'm dreaming, they need to have a game and the atmosphere of the USA-Iran game of '98.

Don't care who wins the game, because everyone comes out a real winner!

I don't see it that way, same as i don't support everything my country does off the pitch,I think the two things are worlds apart. Supporting your nation's athletes and your nation's politicians are not even in the same universe.
