Still name romario - best scorer current year in the Brazilian championship - nearing forty - the guy is unbelievable - I wouldn't mind having him at the selecao up to this day.....
Truer words were never spoken. The guy still is amazing. The best finisher of all time possibly (along with Muller).

Hes still playing. I saw him play in the World Cup Beach futebol last year in Rio De Janeiro when it was Brasil vs Portugal. He still looked quite athletic. What team does Romario play for now?

i dont think ive ever read through a thread with more crap then this one. His goal record nowadays has more to do with the players around him. The others mentioned, can pretty much create their own goals, Ronaldo used to be able to do that very very well.and the players hes talking about include van nistelrooy. since when has he ever created anything? jesus some man utd fans are complete idiots.Trez for me doesn't have the goal totals to warrant a place with the others mentioned incredible! i suspect johno doesnt know who Trez is.those who consistently made their own goals scored less than the guys who depended on others for chances...ronaldo and henry ring a bell? whos scored more then those two?bergkamp's a great player... but he's not much of a finisher... not compared to any of the others we've been discussing.bergkamp was absolutely clinical at ajax. he scored goals from angles and positions van nistelrooy could only dream of.

anyway, the last 20 years the best finishers have been
van basten
romario
ronaldo

Romario currently plays for Vasco da Gama, the same team he started his career at
But don't let those 22 goals fool you - many of them were off PK's - he's still a decent penalty box predator, but nothing but that
You won't be seeing him doing drives down the midfield as in days of yore

I'm quite surprised no one has mentioned Batisuta. His International, and Club records (After River) speak volumes of his skill. He is probably the best striker ever to come out of Argentina.

Another one that merits a mention is Kezman. Sure, his last season was horrendous (3 goals in 27 games? WTF!), but the man scored 103 in 135 matches for PSV, that's immense for any player.

Actually he turns 40 next month
It's pretty pathetic how Romario plays these days (compared to what he used to be until 3 or 4 years ago), he scored that much because Vasco in their entirety plays for him
But that's fine, as long as he scores, he's done his job
It's just he's nowhere international level anymore

Keane is a very underrated finisher in my opinion...he is a great finisher, superb first touch and a matchwinner.

Plus, he's got a great celebration :D

You mean that cartwheel-tumble-gun-shooting thing. Well it is original I'll give him that.

It is, very entertaining to watch him push away his teammatesafter he scores so he can have enough room to perform his little act.

So, how many more goals does Romario need to reach 1000?

According to wikipedia, Romario scored his 900th goal on March 23, 2005. That was the last time he scored in the Carioca. Plus 22 in the Brasileiro and the one vs Guatemala, 923 goals if I'm not forgetting anything. If he keeps scoring 25-30 goals per season, it will take him another 3 seasons to reach 1000. Very unlikely, but with Romario you never know.

I'm going to have to rewrite my Romario profile when he does eventually retire

It's quite an amazing finish to his career, certainly deserves a full write up.

Has anyone ever reached that mark? I think he should go for it!

Has anyone reached 1000 goals better not be your question... I REALLY hope it's not your question.
