Stumbled across this today and thought you guys might find it interesting.

A really good article discussing Gerd's accomplishments and why he's one of the best.

AH, I was just going to post this..haha...but you beat me to it.

THere are articles on this pretty much everywhere, from the Bayern website to the Bundesliga website etc.

Uli is pretty sure that Roy won't break his record, with which I agree with but I think he plays Makaay down a tad too much. While Roy will never be as great as Mueller, no one will ever be like Gerd in that respect, Makaay is underrated and isn't given enough credit when it comes to him closing in on this record.

If Makaay somehow manages to keep his form going as he has in the last dozen games he will break his record as he is ahead of schedule, scoring-wise. It is hard to imagine him continuing such scoring though, especially with the Cup games and the Champions League games interfereing...he will get tired at some point and like last year, pick up an injury along the way.

I like how Uli calls Gerd's records "utterly unattainable by mere mortals" ...that about sums him up! What I didn't know is that Mueller is somewhat a bigger icon in Germany than Beckenbauer which he mentions in the 6th paragraph. He doesn't really give the reasons to that in this article. I mean, Franz has done so much, won the league, european cup, world cup, etc. as a player, then the WC and league club title as coach. Now he's setting up the WC next year and plus, all the work he's done with Bayern as President.
