Well, if you get yours first, let me know what's on it. It won't ruin the surprise for me---it'll increase the anticipation. :)

I have to say, I like what Nike is doing for soccer in the US. Just recently adidas did their website like nike's with the videos and what not. But I saw the nike video on ESPN, not just FSC. They are making an effort to raise awareness in the US for soccer. That's more than I can say for most other companies. I just hope Puma follows suit. :D

Personally, I beg to differ. I think what Nike's saying is nobody in the US cares about soccer. Which is completely false. The number of youth players and fans attending games is steadily increacing. We're seeing more soccer specific stadiums and media coverage. And to be honest, I think the National team will gain more support once they step up their game come World Cup time. The games will be on prime-time national TV.

I feel the National Team does not have much to gain from Nike's new campain. I think it's a front to push more products. Eventually Nike's gonna suck all the cash they can out of this and fill the National Team with hot air. And when they do lose (it happens to every team), the support will steadily drop. And that is definetly not in the team's best intrests, to be sure.

Honestly, the team is not good enough yet for all this publicity. As much as it pains me to say it. Also, this may bring people into the soccer community that we could really do without. For example, the fathers who constantly haggle the ref's and end up getting into fights after the games (the Hockey-Dad incedent a while back). As for me, I'd rather have people involved with the sport on their own acord-- not told by Nike that it's the new 'thing'. But that is neither here nor there. My main point is if we want the National team to succeed in the long run, let THEM make a name for themselves. It's an empire; if you build it, they will come ;-).

uh okay, have you seen the new nike soccer commercial out? and if that's what you're talking about you didn't get the commercial

agreed.

field of dreams baby.

and hey, we need those over-agressive go get 'em dads in this sport to raise go get 'em type sons who help promote the sport. the big thing now in my community is all the blacks that have started playing as everyone says. i personally don't have a problem with race in soccer. i got a color tv!

Yeah, I have it. It shows soccer from all around the US and how it is played differently. Also talks about the Brazilian game. Good stuff actually. I'm not a big Nike fan, but I have been softer to them lately. I like what they are doing and even bought a pair of their Legends.

While I'm ecstatic that Nike is raising their soccer profile (and their ads in all sports have long been top-notch), I'm wondering about that DVD. I ordered it, too, and got a confirmation email which stated, among other things, that they were interested in samba-flavored individualistic soccer.

How typically American. The problem is that while flashes of individual talent still dazzle, soccer is so much more a team game than, for instance, basketball. In basketball a particularly tall player or a particularly quick player can create shots almost every time down the court. 6'11" players like Rasheed Wallace, who has an incredibly high release point on his shot, won't get blocked, unlike a soccer player with the ball at his feet. In soccer a particularly quick/fast/tall player gets those opportunities far less frequently. Soccer players rely so much more on their teammates.

So what I fear is that the dvd (once it comes) will mainly feature bicycle kicks and 1v1 runs, the type of highlight-reel stuff that isn't an accurate indication of the possibilities open to a player in an actual game. People coming to an actual soccer match expecting to see And1 highlight reel 1v1 action will be disappointed by the team play and lack of scoring.

But I could be wrong, and would be happy if Nike showed me otherwise.

My friend ordered something from Eurosport and got it in his package. Though I ordered a few days later and didn't get one. He gave it to me because he isn't really a soccer fan, just a rec player. It's a really cool DVD. I would rate it highly.

Amen, although I do approve of their promotion of the crazy juggling and whatnot. It gets kids out trying new things and becoming crafty with the ball. which is very helpful.

While I agree with you that soccer is a team sport, and there is no "I" in team (although there is a "me") let's face it, almost everyone loves seeing 1v1 and freestyle juggling, fancy footwork and whatnot. If I want to watch a team play, develop a goal from the back, I'll watch a game, or buy an instructional DVD. I don't want to see a "highlight" DVD with "team play", I want all the showdown videos from the website, and all the 1v1 stuff. That's what most people want to see. And contrary to popular belief 1v1 stuff comes in handy FREQUENTLY in indoor matches. I'm playing a LOT of indoor right now, and this week alone, I had 6 1v1s. I could've used tons of help this week TRUST ME!!!!!

yea i agree, outdoor i dont usually need too many 1v1 moves because its easy to get by people wiht simple moves. Indoor however, i do find myself in need of some more creative moves because there is barely any space to run by people.
