Well, the middle of my family are Atletico de Madrid supporters and the other middle are Real Madrid supporters. The first stadium i went was the "Vicente Calderon" - Atletico stadium - with one of my uncles. I almost don't remember anything about this game, I only remember that was a la liga game against a team with yellow t-shirt, maybe the Cadiz. Time later, my grandfather led me to the Bernabeu to see the Real, it was at the end of the eighties. It was a Champion league game, i remember that the stadium was sold out and that the Bernabeu had the tipical great atmosphere of the Big games of champions league. I was really impresed. I remember that the team won and played very well. These years were the years of "La quinta del Buitre" - Butragueño, Michel, Sanchis, Martin Vazquez and other great players like Hugo Sanchez, Gordillo, Buyo, Schuster, etc. They played great soccer, for me the best soccer that i had seen in the Bernabeu. My favourite player was Butragueño. Well, after that game i make my choice, I will be "madridista" forever.

Well, my father has been madridista since the days of di Stefano -he was present in the 50th anniversary game where don Alfredo first visited Spain with Millonarios- and therefore I had little choice... ;)

Living in the U.S. and not having Fox sports world I could not see many madrid games. I only started watching soccer at about 1/4 of the way into last year's CL. the first match I saw was with Madrid, i forgot who they played, but i immediately loved their style of play. I love their players, the Bernabeu, and the classic all white kits. My ultimate dream is to one day see a game at the Bernabeu.

That's pretty much my story. After we moved to the US it was a bit hard to follow the team but in the 80's and 90's you could still see their games on Spanish language TV here in the US. Now in the age of satellite and internet it's better than ever to follow Real Madrid. Merengue por vida!

I too became a fan after hearing of family members talk of the DiStefano-Puskas Real Madrid teams. What's that expression? You don't pick a club to follow, the club picks you! That's how it is with me and Madrid.
Hala Madrid!

The first time I ever saw a professional soccer match was when I went to the Bernabeu 4 years ago on the recommendation of my friends when I was in Madrid. The rest is history.

To me it's all geographic, my wife comes from Madrid. I didn't really start following soccer until I returned to Spain a few years ago and lost good access to American baseball and football. What made me go with Real over Atletico is their quality and style of play and the rivalry with Barcelona. It's a lot like the Cardinals and Cubs in baseball, only better because both teams always expect to win.
