I would take Scholl (in his prime) over Ballack any day.

Ballack. Scholl is very good and was even better when he was younger, but Ballack is and has been Germany's best player for the last 4-5 seasons.

Yea, Ballack really provides this consistency anywhere and anytime...not only for Bayern but for Germany as well...and it seems as Scholl is more prone to injury so I'd pick Michael as well.
Not taking anything away from Scholl, who wouldn't love to have him on the squad. Let's just be glad we have both :D

Ballack is not a team leader or a playmaker--he wouldn't get much recognition if he didn't score goals so well. Scholl can (could) galvanize a team and score--he still proved it every time last season when he came on as a substitute. Each in his prime, Scholl by a wide margin.

Scholl doesn't have the type of influence Ballack has, so my vote is for Ballack.

No, question Scholl.
There are a few negative things about Ballack.
I don't like that he sometimes makes very harsh fouls and he is often agressive arguing with the referees. :(

I would take a Scholl at his full potential over Ballack, but Scholl never reached his full potential, so Ballack at his best is probably more valueable. Scholl and Ballack at their best together would fit together perfectly. Scholl never was the central man, but always a great assistant, dribbler and goalscorer.

I'll pick Scholl on his prime anyday. He can flip a match in just a single play and he is more consistent, bar his injuries. Ballack is a great player, but on his off days, he's just an average player!

I think Ballack has better individual skills, but perhaps because of nostalgia (Scholl arose while I was living in Munich) I'd take Scholl because he was the consumate team player who made all the players around him better. And of course was always committed to the club on and off the field, unlike Ballack who while playing great has one foot out the door.

I don't care who starts for Bayern. As long as they deny Schlacke's title ambitions.......................................................it's fine. :-)

scholli article... the guy is a bayern legend...
above anybody thats been at the club for the last 10-15 years, imho...
and if im reading this correctly, scholl had 10 goals in the league last year???
nice little snippet from the article...
The excellently-worked strike had novelty value too, as the player has scored 95 goals in the Bundesliga, but only four with his head. "I never thought I'd live to see Scholli score with a header," an amused Roy Makaay smiled afterwards. "I had to get stitches put in. They'll be coming out in 10 days," the scorer joshed on Sunday. "If the ball comes to me in the air, my instinct is to get my head out of the way. I normally do better like that."

Clearly Scholl. He made incredible games, also in the CL where Ballack often played crap.

No, he had 3 goals and 7 assists. So he was in 20 games involved in the making of 10 goals.

As a Real Madrid fan, I tell you... SCHOLL!!!
The b*stard kicked our ass many times in a row with that fantastic team of yours where he was leading. However, we defeated Ballack both with Leverkusen and later with Bayern a couple of times each and he was not any relevant. I tell you, Scholl was frightening.
Shall we meet this season again... please don't...it's enough.
Good luck, archirivals.

Ballack for me. I feel Ballack is a more complete player than Scholl ever was. Scholl was all attack and honestly, while he was very good, he never scared me much as a Dortmund fan.
If you asked who was the better attacker and who was more dangerous, I'd definitely say Scholl.
But if I had to pick one of them to start a team, my choice is definitely the more complete player.
In my mind that's Ballack.
Scholl. When he was healthy and in his prime he was one of the best midfielders in Europe.
He's still my favourite non 96 player and has been for a long time.
It's sad imo that he was injured so much and won't be known as one of the greatest because of that and wasn't able to show his talent at the big tournaments.

This really is a tough one...
... for me, the type of player I love to watch is that of Mehmet Scholl. I love creative, unselfish, consistant players that can turn the game on its edge with one clever run or flick or redirected ball. I was a huge Pierre Littbarski fan if that helps. Scholl is a consumate professional who has dedicated himself to his club and country (when healthy). He is a proven winner. His only regrets will be (Klinsmann's decision pending) to never play in a World Cup for Germany and never make his name at a larger foreign club (which I don't rate nearly as much as the majority of the "experts" of the game - the press).
... and then there is Ballack, who is thankfully coming into his own "Effenberg" type style now... strong, intimidating, clever, relentless, unstoppable at times, and a leader of men. He IS the German national team... by that I mean, he plays like no other when playing for his country and will gladly put the team on his back if necessary. He is most definitely Germany's greatest asset at present, and he has the respect of many outside the Bundesliga. Ballack I feel is more "feared" than Scholl, but Scholl generated a more "heartfelt" admiration amongst his peers.
I choose not to decide on this one, merely out of respect for both players.
