Today at work a coworker wore an Arsenal jersey. Later in a bar/restaurant I saw someone wear a Barcelona jersey and another wear a Spanish national team shirt. Whether all three guys were fans of the beautiful game is questionable. I'm inclined to think it's more of a fashion thing. Thoughts?

I don't think a person that has no interest in soccer would wear them. But I think soccer fans do see some style in wearing famous foreign club jerseys. I don't know, maybe it makes them look more "cultured" or something. Also, soccer jerseys are IMO closer to regular clothing than the jerseys of the "big 4" sports.

I've noticed this, especially at school. I used to be the only one wearing an Arsenal, Roma, or Real jersey, and then the occasional foreigner who wore his, then last year, I used to see people daily wearing one. I'm guesing atleast at my school, it sort of went something like:
*Random person walks by in a _____ jersey
Guy: Hey, a _____ shirt...cool...I'm going to buy my favorite team's and wear it too.

Yeah, I think a lot of it is fashion. I've seen a couple people around where I live wearing different clubs jerseys but if you ask them about the club they don't know much sometimes they barely even know the name of the club. A guy I work with has a collection of jerseys of various clubs and countries but he actually follows the beautiful game. I have a few as well but only from Man Utd, England and the USA.

I wear my Newcastle shirts to show who i support and because i think they look good with jeans on a summers day.
I also wear other teams shirts because i like that team and because i think the shirts look good. Most of the other teams shirts i have are old ones from TOFFS so are these shirts fashion or not?
When i have been in the US i have seen an increase in the number of football shirts. From the number of people i've attempted to talk about football with in airport terminals and train stations I think its about a 70:30 split in favour of fashion.

If I see a good-looking jersey from a rather not so renowned club... yeah, I'll buy it.
Thumbs up for good-looking random jerseys

Here in the US its definitely a fashion thing, I wear the jerseys of the teams I support, in no way will anyone see me wear a jersey of a team that I don't like just because it seems fashionable. A lot of people here however do that, A friend of mine actually saw me with a Liverpool jersey, around the time they wore the CL, and asked me about it, I told him and a few weeks after he got the same one. He seems more interested in the game now but its definitely a fashion thing, even people I play the game with at the park wear jerseys of teams they don't have a clue about. There are Colombians, Mexicans and such that wear Barca and ManU jerseys and I tried talking to them about the respective clubs and they had no clu, absolute no clue about anything I was saying.

At my school I have noticed that most of the kids where jerseys from Italian teams (AC,Inter, Juv) and the ones that where NT jerseys actually come from those countries (Peru,Colombia).

I bought a Kyoto Purple Sanga away shirt when I was in Japan a couple of weeks ago because it looked good, and the clincher, they had the same shirt sponsor as Reading (in Japanese letters). I thought I'd committed some Japanese cultural faux pas though, as absolutely nobody else at the match was wearing one - eventually I saw one other person on the train afterwards with one. I never normally wear a football shirt other than when I'm going to a match though, which does kind of limit the amount of times the Kyoto shirt will get an airing. I wore it at work on Friday, with the excuse being it was a £1 for charity dress down day, but other than that it'll probably just live on my wall.

If you're asking if there are better jerseys than those of Brazil and Inter, there are plenty.

Outside of Manchester or Madrid, if i see people wearing jerseys from those clubs, then yeah...it's fashion, but when I see people wearing jerseys from a "local" club, like Aston Villa or Villareal, then it's proaly more to do witrh being a fan and being proud of your colors!!!
