Two strikers and a left-back MINIMUM are needed. The others, winger and CB, would be a bonus.

Granted we need more than a striker, but I think Owen (if it happens) will be the only move made until January. Getting Owen would at least have us in the upper half of the league, making other needs not appear so urgent.

And what can we expect in the next seven days? More transfer heartache as Owen et al fend us off with their bargepoles, a home defeat to Manchester United and then the ritual sacrifice of the Manager?

That won't wash anymore, something really drastic needs to happen for this club to gain any credibility from its fans and the football community at large.

A new Manager or the arrival of Michael Owen would only be like putting a sticking plaster over a festering sore. This club is rotten to the core - a whole barrel of bad apples, not just the odd one or two that have already been discarded.

All we need now is for Freddy Shepherd to tell us (via Sky) that "it's never dull here".

Don't you bloody dare....I couldn't agree more with this statement. Shepard and Hall out now!!

I do not dare tell anyone how to do their job but could some consideration be given to simply rename this thread "smoke and mirrors" for that is management's shtick. The smoke, coming to terms with Boa Morte, Anelka and Luque only to then submit an unaccetable bid to the teams holding the players' contracts - the mirrors, coming to terms with Real Madrid knowing there is no way in hell Owen would join the trainwreck that in NUFC or did I get it backwards?

Bloody hell. I go away for one night and you kids get yourselves into more trouble. :D

Seriuosly though. Was Owen the last one or maybe, just thinking crazy wild thoughts here, they got the media's attention on to this saga to distract them from another deal they wanted to keep on the DL. Just trying to keep your chins up lads. :) At least it can't get any worse.

When does Chopra come back from his injury? Also, didn't Milner play up top for Leeds before his move? Maybe throw him up top.

I am sure Owen will sign on a season-long loan which will give the entire club a massive boost. He will get goals.

I'd faaaaar much rather have Milner up top than Ameobi... what a waste of space he is.

Luque latest

Latest from Deportivo, via the La Voz de Galicia newspaper, Thursday:

Albert Luque, forward of Deportivo is getting closer to signing for Newcastle, after he withdrew himself from training before the rest of his team-mates this morning.

Sources at the club recognised that these actions indicate that talks between the clubs are headed down the right path, even though at this moment the deal hasn't been completed for the Spanish international.

Even though it looks like the negotiations between the clubs were over, especially after Newcastle showed their interest for Michael Owen, The Magpies, whom Depor played in the semi-finals of the Intertoto Cup, reignited their interest over the past few hours.

Whether that means we've upped our bid is uncertain - or that we hope to exploit the fact that the Spanish side failed to qualify for the UEFA Cup, losing a potential revenue stream in the process.

Perhaps crucially, the departure of Viana on loan to Valencia would make any new bid a purely cash-based one - unless they'd like Faye.....

YOU BEAT ME TO IT! I was just about to post that.

Great news, I couldn't be more thrilled, but I have to contain myself knowing that we will most likely ******** it up.

Its so simple, owen is happy to join for a year 2 help us out and so we can use that money 2 bring in 2-3 other players like luque 4 instance.

Owen is doing us a favour by not wanting a permanent deal because its stupid plus owen is only gona get worse so get a good year from him now.
But those huge ego's at newcastle cn't take him unless he's permanent tutut(shakes head)

i think we really need Owen. No matter if its a loan or sale. we are too deep in a hole to be picky. We also ne another long term striker, alans out of here next summer. Maybe luque or that turkish int. Some one to take pressure off of us next transfer season. We all now how hard it is for Fat Freddie to find one good striker.
