Owen ready for Premiership return
Real Madrid's Michael Owen wants to return to Liverpool but is prepared to spend this season on loan at Newcastle if a move to Anfield cannot be agreed.

Madrid president Florentino Perez has promised to help the 25-year-old England forward return home.

"I said that my ideal situation was to start the season in the Real Madrid team and if not I would prefer to return to Liverpool," Owen said.

"If the transfer cannot be finalised in time I have agreed to go to Newcastle."

AHHHHHHH. Come on now Rafa, ******** this one up, we need him more than you do. Exciting news though, even if we are his 2nd choice, it still gives me some hope.

According to Sky Sports News we have agreed a club record fee with Real Madrid for Owen. THIS DOES NOT MEAN HE IS COMING!

He has said he would prefer to only come on loan here, i personally think that this would be the best deal for all parties, we get a striker, owen gets first team games and isn't commited and Real lessen their wage bill.

We still however need another striker and should not stop looking because this owen thing could leave us with egg on our faces.

Another thing is that if we have 15million+ to buy owen, why did we not put a bid in for Kuyt?

So with Luque we had an agreement with the player, but not the club.

Now with Owen, we have an agreement with the club, but not the player...hope that turns out better.

As far as needing another striker, it will be hard to convince someone that there would be much action with Owen and Shearer around, plus a limited fixture list because of no Europe. I agree we still need cover, but I just doubt we'd be able to get any real quality.

You have to remember that Shearer is 35 and this season he was only suppost to be playing part time. If another striker does come in Shearer will be 3rd choice

Stunning.

Real Madrid have absolutley ZERO leverage in this transfer; they have a player on a massive wage packet who clearly will not facto at all in their season and who has no realistic interest from any club outside of Newcastle.

Yet Sheppard blows his load after coming close but missing on Luque and tables a club record bid. WTF?!?!? Simply horrific business sense. Any tactical negotiations should see the price at 10 million pounds AT THE MOST.

Oh, and I still think he will reject a straight transfer to Newcastle and you guys will end up loaning him, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for either side.

Loan deal and he's recalled or moved in January is my bet, if this happens.

Thx,

Hopefully Owen sees the light and decides to get transfered over to Newcastle. Unfortunetly I think the best we can hope for is a season long loan.

Though on the finances.. it does seem extremely strange. Probably 2 million more pounds for Luque would have sealed it, and 2 million pounds less from the 'record fee' would have had Real Madrid saying yes. The business sense from the top is definetly baffling.

While it would be good for Real to lessen the wage bill.....

£18,000,000!!! they were only asking fo £13M, if Real give in to a loan deal with that amount on the table....

No-one has said £18million, just club record fee. Its more likely to be £16million

Which is still doubling Real's investment for a player they have no room for and for whom there is virtually no market for. Stunning if its true.

The fee to Real my not even match Shearer's fee, I would not be surprised if there is a big signing on fee in there to entice him into changing his mind about the loan carry on.

Not that suprising, everyone in Europe knows we are desperate for a striker and have plenty of money so it's only natural that they are going to add a few million on the the price that they would normally accept.

as of 11.30 eastern time over here in the states, newcastle have made a record transfer fee (club wise) to madrid for the services of owen. all they need is the conformation from the player and the deal is done. it doesn't look like liverpool's board will make a move anytime soon, so as of now, it's about 99.9% that owen will be shearer's partner up front on tyneside. Granting liverpool make some stunning move within the next few hrs.

Come on guys, you lot should know Fat Freddy well enough to be sure that there is something suspicious going on here. I'm guessing he will supposedly sign Owen for £15mn, but in reality it will actually be Nacho Novo of Rangers whom he will acquire for about £3mn (plus a tenner for a shave and haircut down the local barbers).

Confused? Check this out...
