if you wanna know what kind of defender he is, then watch the Chelsea-Bayern Quarterfinals or ask Didier Drogba.
I'm happy he's gone.
You should pray, that Thuram and Cannavaro do not hurt themselves or you'll be in big trouble.

My question to you would be "Who is he partnering with in the middle?" At Bayern, Robert and Lucio made a fine pair in the center of the defense. Had very few bad games when those two were perfoming well.
Unfortunately, one of those bad games was against Chelsea where they scored off a few headers.
Some of the gang will be around to get more specific.

You're being funny. He's not a mark type of defender, and Magath should have put Lucio on Drogba because he's more powerful by nature.
Maybe you should ask Adriano-Ronaldo or Ibrahimović-Larsson attacking duos
how many passes did they recieve with Kovac in defense.
One of the most intelligent defenders in the world.

yeah, actually i think hes pretty decent too... he did a good job for bayern, especially in the last year...
wont chastise him for the chelsea games cos he deserves better... hes a solid guy with good anticipation and tough on the tackle, but he needs to build up confidence because he lacks conviction sometimes...
definitely an upgrade over tudor! ;)

I'm with scorpio on this one...Kovac it seems, is getting a lot of criticism because of that Chelsea game, when in retrospect he was solid in his stay with Bayern.
He is physically strong and has great timing for tackles and intercepts balls very well. He definetley is underrated.

Kovac is a hard tackler but is weak in the air.
That is pretty much it.

His biggest strenght is that he is a very fast player, one of the fastest in the leauge. But he lacks one important thing, height. He is 182cm (less than 6'), which is way too small for a modern CB. A good CB should be at leats 6'2''. There are some players that are great in the air despite being smaller than 6' (Klose for example), but Kovac isn't one of them. Overall Ismael (his replacement) is a better player, but I would have liked to keep Kovac (or Kuffour) as a backup.

I don't know how well did he done his job at Bayern 'cause I haven't been in position to watch each Bayern's game, but in Croatia team, he did his job very, very well. And I don't think that Juventus will give him better salary than he had in Bayern if he ain't that good. And to be a member of Juventus and Bayern, not first 11 but 18, you just need to have quality of extra-class player which he definitely posses.

He's like Worns, good against bad strikers and bad against the good ones. Well, maybe he's a little better than Worns.

i'm new here so hi to you all
just wanted to say that kovac is not a good defender the guy blows let's just thank the lord that he is gone and hope he plays against us with juventus.
drogba is a tall guy and very strong in the air and may be just maybe somebody could accept that he can beat kovac in the air but salgado that is just not.
just watch zidane's goal against bayern and how easy salgado jumped higher than kovac to head the ball.
one more thing he is definitely not half the defender kuffour is. why the hell did magath not play kuffour?

I liked Kovac...he was ok in the air, the only reason why Drogba beat him is because he is a MONSTER in the air and could climb nearly any defender not named Stam. Kovac was a top 5 defender in the Bundesliga IMHO. Kovac had a great read on the game too.
